Resilience

People hurt you and try to throw you down
But you would reach for them if you were to drown
Your insecurities keep you in place
So your problems, you neglect to face
It's always easier for you to run away
From courage, your heart begins to stray
On this path, it will only get harder
Yet, with little, you continue to barter
In this dance of life, you are tripped many a time
Tasting this world, bittersweet as a lime
Keeping balance in life like a cat
Yet you feel looked down upon, just like a rat
To a few you look like treasures of old
And to me you are worth much more than gold

In my eyes, you should not think of others as a support beam, while you are the roof because then once they leave your life, you will crumble and fall.
Rather, I think of people as someone who has added sticks to your fire of life to help you shine brighter. People will come and go, but they have impacted you. They will leave an imprint on your life, but your fire will keep burning even after they have left. You can pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and gather the sticks for your own fire. Don't always push people away, for they can rekindle your fire, or make you shine brighter than before.
Losing them hurts, but keep them close to your heart, and remember them. For even after they have left, they can give you the strength and determination to face tomorrow.
