Chapter 1

Mike and I sit alone on my front lawn. I pull my dirty-blond hair into a messy bun. He laughs, showing off his perfect teeth. We've been sitting under the tree for a few hours. This is usually the kind of thing Mike and I do. We just sit, talk and laugh. We have a unique friendship, lasting eighteen years, ever since we were born.

"Ohh, Mikeyyy!" Kelsey singsongs from the porch.

Kelsey is sixteen and extremely annoying. I don't even know how Mike is dating her. He's an idiot for that. But that's Mike for you. Honestly, I preferred his ex-girlfriend, Heather, over Kelsey.

Kelsey runs up to us and throws her arms around Mike's neck. He rolls his eyes and hugs her back. Lately, she has started to irritate him too. When they pull away Kelsey smashes her lips onto his and I can't help but look away. It's weird seeing your sister kissing your best friend.

"Thea, you don't mind us showing off our love in front of you, right?" Kelsey smiles sheepishly.

I glance at Mike and he's giving her a dirty look but she doesn't notice, as usual. Kelsey doesn't pay attention to anything but herself. It's always about her hair, her makeup, her clothes. She's too self-centered and conceited.

"Of course not. Please feel free to slobber each other and share your saliva around me." I say sarcastically and offer a fake smile.

Mike bursts out laughing and Kelsey giggles. I roll my eyes at them.

"Babe, are we still going to that party tonight?" Kelsey asks, turning to face Mike. Mike bites his lip and looks at me.

"Actually, its only for seniors. Sorry, Kels, next time." He says.

Kelsey plasters a disappointed look on her face. She kisses Mike goodbye and strolls back into the house. As soon as she's out of sight we sit down again and I face Mike.

"You do realize what she's doing, right?" I ask.

"You mean that she's using me to get into all the senior parties? I might have picked up on that." He laughs and I join him.

"Why don't you just end it with her? What's the point anymore?" I say.

"I'm waiting for the right moment. That's all." He smirks.

"You're an idiot." I smile and punch his bicep playfully.

"I'll never be the idiot you are." He grins.

In no time, he tackles me to the ground and sits on my stomach. He holds both my hands above my head so I can't smack him. I laugh like an idiot and he smiles. He bends down and kisses me on the cheek and I return the favor, something we've been doing a lot lately.
