- Daniel's perspective
As soon as I reach Corbyn, he bombards me with questions.
"Who is she? What happened? What is going to happen?"
"Calm down Corbyn." I say, turning back to watch her, "Her names Bethany, and I don't know anything else..."
"Oh... Okay. What's that lady asking her?" He says intregued.
"I'm not sure..." I pull my hands out my pockets and crouch down to tie up my shoelaces. As I stand, I notice an iPhone on the floor a few feet from me. I wander over to it, and pick it up. It has a cracked screen but it still works. When it flickers to life, it says at the top: Bethany's iphone.
Well that was easy... I flip it over to check for more scratches and I can't believe my eyes... She has a maverick phone case... She's part of the Logang.
"Daniel!" Corbyn shouts to me. I look up. Bethany is on the floor crying and the police officer is looking over at me with urgency.
"Corbyn, come with me." I say and hand him Bethany's phone.
"I didn't know you had a maverick phone case?" He says confused.
"Not mine. Bethany's."
"She's in the Logang?" He says bewildered.
"Apparently..." I say as we appear beside her.
Bethany is sat on the floor with the police lady crouched in front of her. Bethany looked up at me and Corbyn, then at the police officer.
"What am I gonna do? I don't live in America and I have no family here! What am I gonna do?" She whispers.
Then I blurted out something that would change my life forever.
"You can stay with us."
"What?" All three of them said in unison.
"Daniel," Corbyn said, "Can I have a word with you a minute..."
Corbyn and I wandered a few feet from the others leaving them both lost for words.
"Daniel what the hell are you doing? She can't just have a random girl in the house with five boys!" He whispers angrily.
"Corbyn, she has no one, absolutely no one. She doesn't even live in America!" I whisper back, "It won't be for long, she'll want to go back home, live with relatives. Not with five boys! Come on Corbyn... She needs our help... Please Corbyn." I beg.
"Fine." He sighs, "But when David asks; this was not my idea!"
"Thanks Corbyn!" I say embracing him in a hug. He laughs and hugs me back. I turn and jog back to Bethany.
"You can stay with us for a while if you'd like?" I offer.
"I... I would like that a lot. Thanks Daniel." She smiles. Wow, she looks good with a smile.
"Okay, well call me if you need anything." The officer says handing her a slip of paper standing and walking to the car. By now the road was clear and horns were honking for us to move.
"We're this way." Corbyn says jogging down the road to our bus which was now causing traffic.
"Coming?" I say, turning to Bethany. She's standing in the middle of the road, looking at the ambulances with the bodies of her parents fading into the distance.
She looks at me like she just realized she's going home with a random boy who could be a serial killer with a thing for distressed orphans , but then the look of concern flickers and it's gone. She jogs up to me, wincing a little, but soon enough, we clamber onto the bus to face the reaction of David and the boys.
When I open the door and help up Bethany, it seems like Corbyn has already told the boys. They all look concerned and slightly nervous, but none of them look mad... That's good.
"Guys," I start off, "this is Bethany." She gives them all a little wave, and they all give one back. "Bethany this is-"
"Zach, Corbyn, Jonah and Jack." She says pointing to the boys. We all look at her, stunned into silence.
"Yeah, I know you guys... I'm a Logangster... I even have a maverick phone case- but I guess I lost that..." She fades of and looks down, not being able to say the words.
"Hey," Corbyn says, "you didn't, Daniel found it and I forgot to give it back to you. Sorry." He says handing her back her phone.
She smiles at him and takes back her phone. "Thanks."
"Now..." I mutter, walking to the front of the bus, "let's see how Jeff will take the news..."
As I approach David - I worry about what he'll do... He could shout at me, he could shout at Bethany, he could kick her out... Oh gosh, what have I got my self into.
"Erm, David..." I mutter nervously. Pushing my hand into my pocket and the other round the back of my neck.
"Hey Daniel, what do you want?" He turns towards me.
"Erm, well in the car crash a girl was orphaned and she doesn't live in the country... So, well I said she could stay with us..." I mutter looking up at him
He breathes in, like he's preparing to shout and I flinch back. But then he sighs and smiles at me.
"You know what, the more the merrier..."
I smile at him and turn to go back.
"Daniel," He says, and I turn back around, "You did the right thing."
"Thanks David." I say as he turns and slumps down into his seat. I turn and walk back to the guys and Bethany.
There all laughing and Zach is putting dried noodles in Jack's hair. Corbyn and Jonah are filming them on their phones and Bethany, wedged on the edge of the seat next to Jonah, looks up at me. And smiles. A small, sloumn smile, but a smile all the same. And as I pull up a chair next to her, she whispers in my ear:
"Thank you Daniel."
