As the name says , subject marker marks subject of the sentence.

e.g.

저는 학생입니다. / 나는 학생이에요. / 나는 학생이야.

I am a student. = in this sentence the subject is 'I'

저 - is formal way of saying ' I '

나 - is informal way of saying ' I '

Since ' I ' is the subject of the sentence , we put 는 behind 나 / 저

그 사람은 학생입니다 / 그 사람은 학생이에요 / 그 사람은 학생이야

That person is a student.

if the word ends with consonant e.g. 사람 (ends with ㅁ ) we use 은

if the word ends with vowel e.g. 사과 (ends just with 과) we use 는

이 사과는 너무 맛있습니다 / 이 사과는 너무 맛있어요 / 이 사과는 너무 맛있어

This apple is really tasty

저- that - used for something far away (shortened form of 저것 )
