*Jasper's POV*

My mind drifted to the snowy soft bodies of clouds below the balcony. I'd rather be flying out with my aunt and uncles than here in the gardens trying to live up to my mother's standards any day.

"Jasper!" But my thoughts were interrupted. I sighed and looked over to my mother who sat with a cross look on her pretty face, I couldn't believe how she managed to be perfect when she's mad. Even when she messes up she messes up perfectly, but I absolutely hate when she tries to make me like her. I can't be perfect like she is.

"Jasper! I swear it's like you don't want to learn this!" I really didn't. But I don't really have a choice, I am the sole heir to take over her season.

"I'm sorry mom. See? I'm doing it." I wound my hands in a specific order that had been drilled over and over into my head, it was a pretty complex spell but i managed to make a pretty violet rose appear before her gorgeous blue eyes.

She stood from the elegantly carved lawn chair opposite to mine and lean over to gaze at my work. Her loose blue locks pooled around her head and onto the ground just like a gleaming waterfall with a few grey strands sticking up here and there.

I felt nervous under her gaze, I wasn't good enough to have her inspect the now dead rose sitting limp in my palm. My muscles untensed when she gave a sweet smile to my little creation.

"It's a start. You just need to focus your energy more on your work and I'm sure you'll be an expert in no time. You are dismissed for today." She delicately twirled the rose around in her fingers before handing it back to me. I obediently stood up and began heading out of the grand gardens created by my grandmom and to the main hallway.

"Oh hello Jaspy! How did it go?" I felt two familiar arms pick me up in the air like i was a feather. "Uncle Summer! Put me down!" I cried in surprise, I really wasn't expecting that. He gently placed me down and gave me a booming laugh filled with warmth and sunshine, just like him.

I proudly thrusted the wilted flower into his big man hands. "Ahhh," he hummed in great thought while rubbing his scruffy chin "what a great improvement since your last lesson. You are learning fast like your mother!" I felt my grin fade, I don't like being compared to my mother. I'll never be good as her.

"Oh, I'm sorry sweetheart. How about we go visit your Caretaker Spawn?" He caught himself, my uncle was the only one who I told about my struggle to be like my mother. I told him stuff even my mom didn't know, he was like a father to me...though I was never told who mine was.

I giggled, "You just want to go see your mate. You want to use me as an excuse." I coyly smiled. I watched him bare his teeth in a forced smile, his burly eyebrow twitched when I said mate. "Jasper you know if she were to be that would end terribly for me," He spoke through his teeth.

She's a lot younger than my Uncle Summer but it doesn't seem to bother him too much. It bothers my grandfather and grandmother though for some reason I don't understand.

"Well, are you coming?" He reached out a big bear hand for me, I instantly took it, "Yes!"
