life - alexs pov
"astro?" i call into what appears to be an empty house. i put my coat on an empty chair with my shoes not to far in astros large, empty foyer.
looking down at my stomach and hearing it growl for food i start to make my way to the kitchen careful not to step on any of the dog toys littering the floor. despite that small house it was made to look large with the furniture placed in the right spots.
as i pass a small set of stairs on my way to the kitchen i call up for astro one last time. this time it isn't complete silence, i hear a few things knock over followed by a muffled "what!" from astro.
a slight smile rises to my face knowing that once i reach the top of the stairs and then walk twenty or so feet i'll be able to see my best friend for the first time in weeks. the only person who truly understands me and my problems.
"nothing i was just wondering where you were," i say starting my way up the flight of stairs dividing me and astro. once i reach the landing that is in between the two small flights of stairs i look down at my self. despite it being the beginning of a hot summer in Chicago im wearing skinny black jeans, and a black supernatural always keep fighting sweatshirt. i reach up and momentarily take of my black twenty one pilots snap back to run my hands through my blue hair that is slowly fading. i smile knowing astros is a similar color.
after realizing how long i've been standing there looking at my clothes and making sure my hair is okay i put a bigger smile on my face and sprint up the last ten stairs. i turn to the left into the dull grey hallway which i walk half way through, then i take a quick left down a hallway that is only three feet and leads to astros room. the white door is shut, but you can see a line of light coming from the bottom and illuminating the dark hallway, since i didn't bother to turn on the lights.
i turn the door handle and open the door smoothly. i look into the familiar room, a small twin bed with a black comforter on the far right side of the room. at the foot of the bed is their desk, wood painted white in attempt to seem more modern, along with the desk is a black office chair. next to their bed they have a small nightstand and a few beanbags sitting in the corner just to my left.
"hey country dweller," astro says sitting on one of their beanbags and playing on their new iphone 7.
"city slicker," i say while taking off my hat and doing a little bow.
"alright class first day is always a little nerve racking, especially the first day of middle school," the unfamiliar teacher pauses expecting to hear cheers and whoops but is instead met with a few groans and sighs. "that wasn't exactly what i was hoping but i like to lighten the day up by giving you all nicknames for me and you to use." the man who is known as mr. ashline walks around the room pointing at people and spewing out words that bring some giggles to the class. he then reaches astro and alex, looking down for a moment to think he then points to astro and says city slicker then alex and says country dweller and continues on with the rest of the class not realizing he started a set of nicknames that would go down in history.
i toss my black backpack full of clothes and other necessities for the next few days on to the floor next to bed before laying on it and pulling out my own phone, a old iphone 5s out of my back pocket.
after checking my instagram and twitter i put down my phone and look at astro, "how you been the last couple weeks?" i say moving towards on of the beanbags near astro.
"good i guess, i mean i missed you a lot but i made it bare able with lots of netflix and roaming the internet," they say looking away towards a window and then back at me, "you?"
"man i wish i could say the same my parents are big dicks."
