I'm usually not the type of guy to get so overworked about a girl, but god damn my girlfriend was beautiful. She had her long dark hair pulled back and was wearing one of my oversized gray Adidas sweaters with a pair of black leggings. I smiled as she danced and sang to me in my car on the way to her house.
Her mother and her had invited me over for their family dinner to celebrate her brother's birthday.
I'd only been dating Selena for about three months and I still hadn't gotten the chance to really get to know her older brother. He was kind of intimidating and I feel like he would definitely beat my ass without blinking if I had ever stepped out of line with his sister. Good thing I was a good kid and had barely even done anything but kiss his younger sister, I guess.
"Babe?" Selena stared at me.
"Oh, sorry. What babe?" I shook my head and smiled at her.
"Don't worry so much," she laughed. "You look cute when you scowl like that but it will give your face wrinkles."
"Well, I wouldn't want that," I laughed as we pulled up to her house.
"No, we wouldn't," she unbuckled her seatbelt and kissed my cheek before staring at my eyes.
"What?" I laughed.
She shrugged and then grabbed my face with her hands and pulled my lips into hers.
"Babe," I laughed as I pulled away. "Not in front of your house."
"Why not? No one's even looking."
I stared at her for a second before kissing her quickly one more time. "Later. Let's go inside."
She rolled her eyes then smiled at me before we got out of the car and walked inside.
"Hi mom!" She yelled as I closed the door behind us.
"Hi, sweetie!" She yelled from the kitchen. I followed Selena into the dining room where her mother and brother were standing a few feet away in the kitchen as she cooked and he kept her company. "Oh hi Dallon, how are you?"
I smiled awkwardly and stood in the dining room by myself as Selena gave her brother a hug. "I'm good, how are you?"
She smiled as she turned the oven on. "I'm alright, tired. What have you been up to?"
"Nothing too exciting, just school," I said as I fidgeted with my watch.
"Happy birthday, Travis!" Selena said as she popped a blueberry into her mouth.
"Thanks," he smiled and looked at me. "Hey, Dallon, come upstairs with me I want to show you something real fast."
I got wide eyed and followed him up the stairs.
"I didn't really want to show you anything, I just figured we do some man talk as my mom and sister caught up since she's been at her dad's all week," he laughed as we walked into his bedroom.
"Oh, do you and Selena not have the same dad?" I raised an eyebrow as I awkwardly stood in the doorway.
"No," he laughed. "Did you not notice that she's half Mexican and I'm not?"
"No-" I paused. "It's not that, I just-"
"It's okay," he laughed. "I'm just messing with you. My dad passed when I was little, I never really knew him. A year later my mom got pregnant with a 'random' guy, thus bringing Selena into this world."
