Chapter 1. To Save a Prince•

The King and his Servant

The sky.

The trees.

The leaves.

It all seemed so beautiful and new, as if it had been reborn into the world. What was different? Perhaps it was the young teenage girl wandering in the forests of Camelot. Her long blond hair and bright green eyes shimmered in the rays of sunlight creeping through the tops of the tall trees. The leaves crumpled under the girls leather boots as she walked in between the tree trunks. She stopped under a gap that the trees had made and let the sun warm her face. She liked the tickling feeling of the warmth from the sun and smiled. There wasn't much to smile about for her, but simple things like the sun and the beauty of Mother Nature could make her happy. The young girl had been wandering the forests for a whole day now. Yesterday seemed like ages ago to her now that she had become lost in the mists of the Camelot forests. She was getting closer to her destination now, but she couldn't help but feel nervous. What was Camelot going to be like? She didn't care too much, she was just glad to get away from her old life. The only thing she'd miss from her old village would be her mother. All she had was her mother since her father had left when she was just a child. Mothers have undying love for their children, and that is why she had to leave. Her mother needed her to leave to keep her safe. For this girl was different then the other people in the village. Her mother liked to call it a "gift" or a "blessing." It made her special, but she didn't always feel special with this gift. Magic can be a blessing, but it can also be a curse. Because of this, she could never use her magic around people. Fear can do awful things to people, and she didn't want people to fear her. Fear can also make people do terrible things; unthinkable things. Sorcery was feared by the people and anyone suspected of using magic was punished. Although she only ever used her magic for good, she rarely could ever use it. She hadn't used her magic in a long time, but recently she had to. It all started when her village had created a night watch to look out for robbers. She had been on night watch duty with another man. There usually wasn't anything interesting going on in the village, but that night in particular was different. The man and her had gone for a walk around a stream when they heard an unusual sound coming from something very large. Naturally, they were both scared but she was braver than the man so she stepped forward towards the large figure. Large black eyes stared back at her through the darkness. And the eyes were attached to a large muscular black body.. It was a black bear, and a massive one. She slowly began to back away, but the bear had seen them and started to growl quietly. The man was frightened and acted quickly. He picked up a large stone and chucked it at the bears head. The stone hit the bear with a soft thud, but didn't seem to affect it. If anything, it seemed to anger the bear. It shot up on its hind legs and stood tall. It looked down at them and roared a powerful roar that shook them where they stood. The young girl knew what to do, she had to do it or they'd both be attacked by the bear. She stood up and faced the bear with as much courage she had. Then, she raised her hand to the bear and looked deeply into its eyes as she used her magic to divert its attention. The man stood behind her as she did this and looked from her to the bear but couldn't quite figure out what she was doing. But the man realized what she had done when the bear sat down and ran back into the depths of the forest. After the bear had left she turned towards the man and looked at him with a pale face. She was very scared for herself now because he had seen her using magic. The man turned and started to walk back to the village without saying one word. She ran up to the man and pleaded that he wouldn't tell anyone, he nodded his head but she didn't quite believe that he would keep her secret. Sure enough, the next morning as she walked through the village people whispered and pointed as she passed by. Her mother was scared for her daughter's safety and sent her to live in Camelot to keep her from prying eyes. Ever since that night she had promised herself to never use magic in front of someone again. But what she didn't know, is that was about to change. The young girl started walking again after she had warmed herself from the sun. Suddenly, she heard a branch brake behind her. She turned her head to see what had made the noise, but she didn't see anything. "Hello?" She said while trying to sound as confident as she could. There was complete silence, so she shrugged and kept walking. Again, another branch broke but she didn't see anything. Unexpectedly, a man's voice yelled out to her from behind the trees. "Who's there? I know who you are and what you've done! Don't move!" She could hear the horses hooves clapping loudly against the dirt and she became frightened. She didn't know what he was talking about, but she knew it couldn't be good so she ran. She ran as fast as her legs could carry her. The man on the horse was getting closer, and she started to become very light headed from running so fast. Her heart was beating very loudly in her ears, and she could barely breath. She had to stop running, but the man would catch her. But before she could even consider anything, the horse came out from behind a tree and leapt in front of her. She came to a halt and held her hands up. "I didn't do anything I swear! Who the hell do you think you are to chase me like that?" She yelled while still breathing very heavily. The man on the horse swiftly jumped off his horse and ran his fingers through his blond hair. He was very handsome and muscular, she recognized his armor and knew he must be a knight. "Are you not the bandit that escaped the prison in Elftaan last week?" He said with a frown as he started to walk closer to her. "No! For gods sake! What kind of ass knight chases someone not knowing who they're chasing!" She said angrily to the man. He rolled his eyes and crossed his arms. "Well I'm sorry I chased you, but it's not my fault you look like a criminal!"
