Chapter 2: Xavier

Start from the beginning

"Do you need a ride home?" asked Mr. Di Angelo.

"No, sir, but thank you for the offer. Actually, I live next door. I'm you're new neighbor," I said with a smile. He smiled as well and nodded.

"Alright. Then welcome to the neighborhood," said Mr. Di Angelo. I smiled before saying something again.

"I need to go. It was nice meeting you," I said before getting up to leave.

"Wait," said Mr. Di Angelo. I turned to face him.

          "Yes?"

"Are you a half-blood?" he asked. For some reason, I answered, even though I was sure I didn't know what that was.

"Yes, I am. I'm not sure how I know, but I have this feeling," I explained. He nodded with a serious expression.

"How old are you?" he asked me.

          "13," I said.

"They should pick you guys up soon," mumbled Mr. Di Angelo under his breath. Narissa and I exchanged looks.

          "Pardon me?" I asked, confused.

"Nothing. May I talk to your mother tomorrow?" he asked. I nodded and told him to call after giving him the number.

"Why, Dad?" asked Narissa. She barely talked, but still looked unforgettable. I suddenly realized that I was staring at Narissa for too long because she caught me. I looked away, embarrassed, my face burning. Mr. Di Angelo waved Narissa off.

"You'll see soon. Just rest for now," he said before getting up and kissing her forehead. Narissa nodded and her eyes shut. Mr. Di Angelo walked me out of the house.

"What was the creature, Mr. Di Angelo?" I asked at the doorway. He finally answered.

"A Hydra. You'll learn about them in Camp," he said before closing the door.

I was confused as I walked to my front door and opened it to find my mom making dinner. I greeted her as usual and walked up to my room. I sat on the bed and thought for a moment. How do I know Greek? Why did I say that I was a Son of Apollo? Why was Mr. Di Angelo acting a bit weird? How did I know I was a half-blood? What Camp? What's a Hydra? Questions filled my head like no tomorrow. I sat there thinking until Mom called me for dinner. I got up and walked downstairs. The first question I asked as we ate dinner finally slipped out of me.

"Mom, am I a half-blood?" I asked. She froze before setting down her fork. "Mom?"

"Y-Yes?" Mom asked, probably hoping that I would ignore it. I kept asking.

"Mom, you know, don't you? WHat's a half-blood, anyway?" I asked, so curious.

"Xavier-Where'd you get all these questions from? Are you catching a cold or-" said me mom, pretending to feel my temperature. I moved her hand away.

"Mom, answer me," I said. I needed answers. She sighed.

"Yes, you are. I didn't want you to find out this way. Xavier, your father, he never died in a car accident. He's alive, just not here right now. Do you remember all those Greek myths that you talked about in class? Gods, goddesses, satyrs, things like that? They're all real. Do you recall who Apollo was? The Greek god of the sun? Xavier, hun, Apollo.... is your father," Mom explained, my hands in hers. I was shocked.

"You're kidding, right?" I asked, dumbfounded. Mom shook her head. It took my a minute to process this all in my head. Dad, my dad, is... the god of the sun? So that's why I'm good with instruments and music. That explains why archery is a piece of cake, and why I love the sun no matter how hot it is. I did the exact opposite of what a normal kid would do if they found this out. "Cool!" I shouted. I smiled so widely I was worried that my face would be stuck like this forever. "That's amazing!" Mom looked at me oddly.

"You're taking this better than I thought you would," she said, smiling as well. She explained the rest, including Camp Half-Blood and how I would have to train. Mom said that I would be going to Camp soon. Just then, the phone rang.  She answered. "Hello?" asked Mom. "Oh, nice meeting you, Mr. Di Angelo. Yes, mmhmm..." Their conversation went on and on so I went upstairs to my room to get ready for bed. Just outside my window was the roof of our garage, so I hoped onto the roof and sat down to stare at the stars. I looked to my left and saw Narissa's window open. She was brushing her straight, dark brown hair. Narissa looked out her window and saw me, but she nearly fell off her chair. I stifled a laugh. Narissa got up and gave me a weak smile. I gestured for her to come out and sit beside me. She nodded and exited through her window the same way I did. Narissa had her roof just below her window so that she could crawl out and make it next to me.

"Your mom told you, too?" asked Narissa as she sat down beside me, legs crossed. I nodded.

"Yup. I'm a son of Apollo, god of the sun, music, and archery. How about you? Who's your godly parent?" I asked, staring deeply into her mystical brown eyes. She stared into my golden ones before answering.

"Kristina. She's a new goddess, the goddess of demigods. Dad said that she would go around to help demigods who are in deep need. Apparently, she has all the powers of every god, goddess, Titan, you name it. The sad part is that none of her children have the same power," she said, looking down. "I wish I actually met her, though," Narissa mumbled under her breathe. I watched as her eyes turned earth ocean blue. I gasped. She looked up. "What?" asked Narissa. Even her hair got a bit lighter.

"Your eyes just turned from brown to blue," I said, amazed. She nodded.

"It does that all the time. Dad said that Mom was the same. My eyes change the same way her's does," explained Narissa, smiling a bit. I smiled, too, at how cute Narissa looked when she smiled. She looked up at me and blushed. "I-I better go back to my room. Bye, Xavier." Narissa blushed even more when she said my name. I chuckled.

"Ok. Night," I said. I thought for a moment. "Wait," I called after her. Narissa turned around. "Same time tomorrow night?" I asked. She smiled and nodded.

          "Sure," answered Narissa.

"Sweet dreams," I said before she got into her room. I caught a glimpse of her smile and blush. She went into her room and closed the window. I smiled and waved at Narissa. She waved back, still smiling and blushing, before closing her blinds. I chuckled to myself and couldn't help but smile from ear to ear. "Best first night in my new house ever," I whispered before hopping up and going back into my room to get some rest. The last thing I remembered was Narissa before falling into a deep, dreamless sleep.
