6/It's all I've been thinking about lately

She cut herself off when she saw Alana carrying the salad plates outside

"Never mind"

"Where should I leave them Karen?"-Alana asked

"Over here sweetie"-my mom patted the middle of the table with her hand-"And here"

Alana set down the plates and we heard the doorbell .We both automatically looked at my mom

"Would you two mind getting that?"-my mom asked.I could tell she was stressed out about the whole thing

"Sure"-I said as I intertwined my hand with Alanas and pulled her inside the house.I opened the door and my grandmother was the first one to enter

"Hey grandma"-I laughed as she reached out to hug me.She was so short and cute.

"Hello Shawn.Welcome home"

"Thank you granny.You've already met Alana,my girlfriend"-I said motioning with my hand towards Alana

"Yes.Quite the girl you've got by your arm Shawn,you better know how to keep her"-She said as she gave Alana a hug

"I try"-I laughed.My cousins came by next.I introduced them to Alana,they had already seen her in pictures and heard about her but they'd never met her personally.We sent them directly to the garden where we sat down to eat lunch together.The sun was up but the heat was bearable.It wasn't as warm as I'd expected

"Shawn,would you mind passing down the salt?"-I heard Veronica,my cousin ask.I nodded as I grabbed the salt and passed it down to her

"So Alana"-my uncle started-"Have you finished your studies yet?"

Alana took a sip of her drink-"Yes.I finished my last exam last week"

"What are you studying?"

"Fashion and art design"

"She's absolutely amazing at it"-I added and I saw Alana blush the slightest shade of pink

"Does that mean you're graduating university?"

"Yes"

"Will there be a graduation ceremony?"-my dad asked as he took a bite of his food

"Actually yes.In 2 weeks or so."

"And you didn't tell us?"-my mom said-"We have to be there and cheer for you when you get your diploma"

Her face lit up-"That would be amazing.Thank you. I'm actually opening my first exhibition in a couple of months.I would be honored to have all of you there"

"Even an old lady like me?"-my grandmother joked making us all laugh

"Especially"-Alana smiled as my grandmother hugged her by the shoulders

The doorbell rang again and I already knew who it was.I got up my seat-"I'll get it"

I walked up inside the house,through the hall and took a deep breath before opening the door.Aaliyah stood there,her hand intertwined with her boyfriends as she starred at me with a smile.I looked at her boyfriend.God I hated this.
