Chapter 1: Corrupt

Oneirology is the only significant science these days, once the year 2046 rolled around scientific discovery came to a halt after WWIII because of the use of nuclear weapons. Only three countries remained as the world was obliterated by nuclear weapons; Russia, The UK, and the USA. Slowly Russia was a wasteland as well, as the UK and the USA nuked all of Russia. Because of the extensive use of nukes, the rest of the world became quarantined because of the nuclear waste that infected the lands. Even the UK was covered in nuclear waste and soon the population died out the only people that remained were in the USA. Since they didn't get involved till near the end of the war the effects of nuclear waste that killed those who resided in the UK didn't become a problem in the United States. Because of the devastation of the US people became depressed and couldn't forget the horrors of the war, people blamed the government for the devastating loss that occurred everywhere. Fights began to break out and the citizens of the only country left was on the verge of revolution, the government needed to find a way to get everyone to forget the horrors that took place, the blood, the bombs, the death, the destroyed towns, and the stench of poverty that came over towns, so they turned to science. Scientists complied with the government because their families were put on the line. They soon came up with a way of making everyone forget the events of the world or that the rest of the world even existed with the use of Oneirology. The technology was used by inserting a chip below the skin behind the ear that tapped into people's dreams while they slept and the government had full control on what people remembered by viewing images that were memories produced by the region of the brain known as the limbic system and replace the memories with new ones that made them forget the rest of the world existed, and those who the technology didn't work on were murdered or thrown into mental institutions. Unless you were like me, you remember but will never speak. Pretend to forget, for your safety, and your families safety. Back when the war ended and the government forced scientists to study Oneirology the government had a proposition to have people dedicate themselves to science to basically let scientists perform experiments on the people of the public for the exchange of money shelter and food. I was one of those people that took the oath to protect my family. When we took the oath we had to line up in front of the white house and say "I, Callista Grove, swear to devote myself to science to better the future for all those who remain in prosperity and liberty." Soon the day came where there was a knock on my door in the gated community that my oath placed us in. It was a tall buff man in a plain black suit and tie that spoke of my duties to science saying I was to live in a closed institute and live closed off from everything and everyone. I would have to forget about my family and everyone I loved. My Mom and sister were devastated, they couldn't bear to lose me after losing my father in the war. He was a pilot in the war whose plane got shot down into the ocean after an intensive search they never found his body. No-one had a say of what the government did at this point in history so I had to obey their orders. I was not allowed to bring anything but the clothes on my back and a broken heart. They forced me onto a bus full of people, everyone in town who took the oath was on that bus, and I would never see them in the same way again. I was one of the very few people who could control what my dreams were, I only knew people like me existed because of those who spoke out about the war and remembered, they protected themselves as did I after we were all forced to get those chips behind our ears. The government told us they were an advancement in technology that would cure diseases so they became a requirement. There were rumors that spread that they were indeed devices that would make us forget about the war. As the rumors came out to be true by the events that occurred those who opposed the government was either murdered or called insane and locked up for life.
