"Thanks Lucy. You can always cheer me up, I think it's part of your powers." Avery jokes, not wanting to focus on the somber mood any longer than necessary. Lucy lightly chuckles before letting go of Avery. She says,

"Come on, let's go. We don't want to be late to registration." They continue walking to school. As soon as they get there, the teasing starts. Water and Air Witches and Warlocks call out insults to Avery, mocking her for her dark skin and impure Witch blood. She keeps her head down in shame as she walks past, unable to stop a few tears from leaving her eyes. Words like,

"Slut!"

"Fat ass!"

"Half-blood!"

"Coal skin!" are shouted as she walks through school, and the teachers do nothing. Most of them don't care, or are too afraid. Lucy angrily mutters under her breath the whole time, but she knows she can't do anything about it either. She whispers under her breath to Avery,

"I'm sorry." Avery nods at Lucy as a sign that she heard her and keeps her head down, trying not to listen. She can't help but hear every word they throw at her, telling her to leave or to die. Her wrists itch as the desire to slice into them increases with every insult. Avery knows that Fire Witches and Warlocks are seen as below the other Witches and Warlocks for the destructive and dangerous nature of the element but Avery is seen as below them, and sometimes her fellow Fire Witches and Warlocks will torment her with the others to try and get some of the negative attention away from themselves.

Lucy and Avery finally get to their registration room, sitting at the back as usual. Their registration teacher is an Air Witch, so she ignores what's going on when the other 16 year olds in the room turn around and torment Avery and Lucy. Unless Lucy and Avery fight back. Only then does the teacher pay attention, but only long enough to make them stay after school.

Avery puts her head on the desk and covers the back of her head with her hands, slightly hoping that today they will leave her alone. However, it doesn't happen. As the other students filter in, they do something to Avery, whether it's kicking her legs, slapping her head or neck, or insulting her. Lucy glares angrily at each and every one of them, frightening the few that dare to lock eyes with her.

Suddenly, a worker from the front desk enters the classroom. She immediately goes to the front of the room to speak to the teacher. Avery lifts her head off of the desk to observe the quiet conversation happening between the two women, and sees her teacher look extremely shocked. Avery can't help but wonder if it has to do with herself.

The conversation between the two women finished quickly after that. Still looking shocked, Avery's teacher stands up and steadies herself by placing her hands on her desk. The teacher calls out,

"Avery Hunt and Lucy Zeme, you are to go to the Headmaster's office immediately. He wants to talk to you." The whole class snickers, thinking that Lucy and Avery are going to get in trouble. The two girls stand up and follow the woman who came to the classroom to the Headmaster's office. When they enter, they are shocked at the scene. The leader of the Witches and Warlocks, a Water Warlock called Axel Voda, is standing in the room with his son, Cassius and another boy who is in the same year as them, Daniel. Cassius looks a lot like his father, and Avery knows that he is considered to be attractive among the other girls in their year. He has dark brown hair and his eyes are a dark blue most girls swoon over. He's only about average height but muscular. No matter how much she tries, Avery just doesn't find him attractive or appealing in any way.

With Daniel, it's the same. He's seen as attractive and desirable. Not as much as Cassius, but girls still lust after him. He is tall and slim but still a bit muscular with grey eyes and platinum blonde hair, but Avery can't see what is supposed to attract her to him.

The door behind Lucy and Avery slams shut, taking Avery out of her thoughts. She focuses on Axel as he starts to speak to them,

"Now, I'm sure you four are curious as to where your Headmaster is and why I am here talking to you instead of him when it said that he summoned you. The truth is, I need to ask you four to do something very important for me. So, will you do it?"

Author's Note:
Hey guys and welcome to the first chapter of The Promise Path, I hope you liked it! Sorry it took so long, it took a lot of planning then editing the changing then editing but now it's finished.

Also, I just want to say that if you're struggling with something similar to what Avery or any of the characters in this book are going through, then please talk to someone about it. It doesn't have to be an adult, it doesn't even have to be someone you know. Sometimes it's better to talk to a stranger, since they don't know you personally.

If you want to talk, you can always message us on Wattpad. We won't judge. Or, feel free to email me at bossomeCatQueen@yahoo.com or Sophia at sophiamaull@gmail.com because we might be able to help. I've gone through some shit and I know Sophia has as well so we might be able to understand and help. So please don't ever feel like you're alone, because you're not. Somewhere there's someone going through the same thing.

So if you ever need help, advice, or just want to talk, don't be afraid to contact me. I'm not as mean as I am in books I swear, that only happens when you know me better 😉😂

Anyway, lets lighten the mood, shall we? What do you think Axel wants them to do?

Man I'm so excited for this book, it's gonna be great. Sophia and I fangirl about it all the time and actually just spent most of yesterday and the day before planning little details of the book like where they live and stuff. I won't say any more, since it'll spoil it. You'll just have to keep reading to find out all the other juicy little things we figured out 😈

Hellooo, it's Sophia! Nia did an amazing job at writing this chapter, I was just the extremely picky editor, and now its my turn. Oh gosh... But yes, I'm going to be the brains behind chapter 2. I can't guarantee when it will be written by since there are probably going to be a lot of details (and because I am an olympic level procrastinator). But I hope that you have enjoyed this chapter so far!
