Chapter 2

Finnick Pov.

I wake up and all I can think of is Annie. Why did this happen to her? Why did she have to get picked? I don't know what I'm going to do if I lose her. I'm going to spend my own money to send her sponsors if I need to. I'll spend any amount of money to send her food, water, protection, anything. I'll spare no expense. She needs to come out of there alive. Pearl comes into my room.

"Breakfast is being put on the table!" she exclaims.

I nod my head and change into a different pair of clothes. I see Annie walking out of her room. She looks tired and she looks like she has been crying. I walk over to her and hug her.

"What happened?" I whisper.

"I just can't stop worrying. I can't stop being so afraid." she whispers back as I feel one of her tears fall down my back.

"I know you're afraid." I whisper. "You just have to try."

She pulls away and we sit down for breakfast. They serve hot chocolate, tea, coffee, apple or orange juice, pancakes, French toast, waffles, bacon, eggs, and sausage. Annie and I get some hot chocolate, apple juice, French toast, bacon, and eggs. We eat our food in silence for about five minutes.

"We should arrive in the Capital today!" Pearl squeals.

"That's great Pearl." Mags says, probably trying to make Pearl be quiet.

She smiles, she's obviously happy that someone cares about what she says. Annie and I sit in her room and watch the TV. She sits curled up in a ball next to me. She seems so different. She's not in her usual happy, sarcastic, and playful mood. She seems miserable, sad, and kind of angry. We don't talk much, I don't think she wants to talk much. I don't want to spend these next couple of days with her upset.

"Annie." I say in a soft voice.

"Yea." she mumbles.

"I don't want to spend the last couple of days we have together like this." I tell her.

"I don't either. But all I can think about is how afraid I am." she whispers.

"I know you're afraid." I say as she looks into my eyes. "But I don't want to spend these next couple of days practically ignoring each other."

"Okay." she replies. "I'm sorry I've been so quiet and ignoring you. I just feel like the more I'm with you, the more I'm going to miss you in that arena."

"I want you to miss me." I tell her.

She looks at me clearly confused.

"Because if you miss me, you'll be more driven to get back to me." I explain.

"I'm already driven." she whispers. She hugs me and I hug her back.

"Don't be afraid. Just go for it." I tell her.

"That might have worked for you, but I'm not like you." she says doubting herself.

"Don't do that!" I yell.

"Do what?" she yells back.

"Don't underestimate yourself! Just don't! Annie if you want to win you can't doubt yourself! You have to stop being so scared!" I yell at her and feel bad right after I do. I feel so guilty for it, but I'm so scared of losing her that I'm getting mad at her. It doesn't make since but I'm just letting my emotions get the best of me.

She walks out of the room that we were in and goes in her room. I leave her alone for about ten minutes, but I go to her door and it opens up. I see her curled up in her bed not moving at all.

"Go away." she mumbles so quietly I can barely hear her.

"I'm not going anywhere." I say, getting closer to the bed.

"Leave me alone. I'm not happy with you right now." She says loudly.

I try to think of something to say to make her laugh or something. "Make me." I say playfully.

She starts to smile but keeps trying to fight it. "Stop trying to make me like you right now! I'm mad at you!"

"I'm sorry. I just... I lose it. You mean to much to me and I can't stand the thought of losing you. I let my emotions get the best of me and I took them out on you. I'm sorry." I apologize.

She hugs me. "How long did you think I'd be mad at you?"

"I don't know." I laugh.

Pearl barges into Annie's room. "We are finally here!" She exclaims excitedly.

Annie looks at me sadly as we get off the train and onto the car that's taking us to the apartment.
