Erin walked around the school. He didn't know where he was, but it was better than listen to some fat man yelling. Siri seemed to agree; she always agreed, though Erin had no idea why. Without warning, he capriciously toppled over a kneeling boy. The victim was a little bit taller than him, and he looked wearier than Erin too.

"S-sorry!" Erin said. He got up and saw all of the mud he left on the servant's newly cleaned floor. Guilt started to rise. So much for a good first impression.

"It's fine," the boy sighed.

"Hey, are you okay Jeffrey?" someone asked. Erin looked and saw a boy running towards them with a salamander on his shoulder. He was a bit tan with dark brown hair, and he wore a faded uniform. He was an inch taller than Erin, and he was probably more careful than Erin too. His salamander was a dark burgundy, and it was as small as a ferret. It's eyes were big ambers, and its snout was sharp.

"I'm fine, Fletcher," Jeffrey said again. He got up and brushed off the dirt carried by Erin previously.

"That's good," Fletcher said. He turned and examined Erin. He was surprised by Siri. "Hi," Fletcher said. "What's your name? I'm Fletcher, and this is Ignatius." The salamander started to act all proud, and it almost made Erin laugh.

"Erin Autre," Erin said, "and this is Siri. I think she's a Lupis." Fletcher knelt down and tried to pet Siri. She was shy at first, but she finally let him pet her. As soon as he started, Siri began to relax and nuzzled against Fletcher.

"I think she likes me," Fletcher said. Ignatius began to growl, and Siri barked back.

"I don't think our demons like each other," Erin pointed out.

"Yup," replied Fletcher. They both backed up and tried to handle their aggressive demons. Jeffrey was freaking out and backing away. He never really seen demons fight before; he didn't want to see one either.

"Uh, are you guys okay?" a girl asked. She had free black hair and the greenest eyes. She sported the same uniform, but it was fancier and pretty. She also had a navy blue cloak that swished as she moved. Erin didn't see her demon, but he figured he would  learn why later.

"It's nothing, Emma," Fletcher said. "Our demons just don't get along."

"I see," Emma said. "I'm Esmeralda of the Hoseki family, but please call me Emmy or Emma." She held her hand to Erin, and he awkwardly shook it. Hoseki, he thought. Where have I heard that name before?

"I'm Erin Autre," he replied. "This is Siri."

"Siri huh," Emma said. "You've got a rare demon. Lupises are near extinction. It's a miracle that you got it. As for why you don't see my demons, I absorbed it. Rook will explain that later." This girl is creepy, Erin thought.

"Emmy! You left me behind!" another girl complained. She had curly golden locks, and her storm grey eyes were full of life. She had the same uniform as Emma, but her stature was different. She also proudly wore a golden necklace with an emerald pendant the shape of a fern.

"Sorry Maria," Emma said. "This is Maria of the Esperanzo family. She just came."

"Hello there!" Maria said. "Nice to meet you all." She waved happily to them all. Erin and Jeffrey were dumbstruck, but Fletcher was only half-surprised.

"H-hi," Jeffrey and Erin muttered. They were used to being looked down upon, not equal.

"Nice to meet you," Fletcher said. He held out his hand, and Maria gladly took it. "I'm Fletcher, this is Jeffrey, and this is Erin."

"It's so nice to meet you all," Maria said. "Is there anyone else I should know?"

"Well, I have more friends," Fletcher said.

"He knows a dwarf and elf," Emma added.

"That's splendid," Maria said. They all began to talk except Erin. Maria stepped out and looked at Erin with warm eyes.

"Perhaps you would like to join?" Maria said sweetly. Erin was shocked that someone decided to talk with him; he was no more than some late student. Yet, he made four friends without even trying.

Erin smiled shyly and said, "Sure!" They all brought him in. He finally laughed and felt free once more. So this is what it's like to have real friends, Erin thought. It's ... nice.
