oh, shit, is the one thought that keeps repeating itself in my head. i let out a dramatic gasp at seeing the increasing drops of water marking my sleeves. i fasten my pace as i pass the school gates, confident that i'll make it to the subway station in time if i'm quick enough.
unfortunately, i've never been the lucky one. the rain gets heavier so quickly that it's almost as if a light drizzle changes to cats and dogs in the blink of an eye. before i even start running, i'm already soaked, my vision becoming blurry. at times like this i wish my glasses had windscreen wipers - wouldn't that be convenient?
i sprint to the bus stop right before me and sigh of relief to be sheltered from the rain that doesn't seem like it'll be stopping soon. i plop down on the small metal bench - half of it already taken by some dude - as i run my fingers through my bangs that are now sticking to my forehead. i begin to dry myself off, starting with cleaning my glasses, although not much can be done since every other part of me is wet as well. i pull out my phone out of my drenched backpack (i ignore the fact that my books have probably died of drowning) and tap on messages. it's too dangerous to call, so sending a text is the best option to get someone to rescue me.
who's free rn? can u pick me up? i'm kinda stranded at the bus stop near my school. be quick is the text i send to my group chat with my three older brothers. shivering slightly, i keep my phone tucked in my hands, waiting for a reply from at least one of them. it's starting to get really cold. i take off my blazer and drape it over my legs. i slide my arms beneath my blazer, trying to warm up as much as i can.
i notice that the stranger beside me looks very tense. i sideglance his posture; the way he's sitting is very awkward, fists tightly clenched. i realise that he's in uniform - ah, he's from the all-boys' version of my all-girls high school. our schools are just opposing each other. but whatever, most of the kids from yeoreum boys' are meh. i would know because i attend hagwon with a lot of them.
a vibration in my hands alerts me that i've gotten a text. i sigh once again, seeing that my eldest brother is already on his way. i casually look at the boy with the corners of my eyes again, not caring if he notices that i'm staring at him. this will probably be the last time i ever meet him anyways. from what i can see, he's got a nice build. not too skinny, not too bulky - somewhere in between, just the way i like it.
i move up to his face. only by looking at his side profile, i feel something pinching my chest. oh no, no no no, i think he may be... good-looking. i instantly divert my gaze to somewhere else. god damn it, now i'm gonna catch feelings for some cutie i'll never meet again. it's good that i can't see the whole of him because if he is as attractive as i think he is, then i'm gonna be haunted by images of him for the next few days. and that won't be fun.
minutes pass by quickly, thank god, and soon my brother's familiar car comes into sight. i hold my blazer above my head and run towards the passenger seat, prepared to not look back. no. don't look back, dani.
don't do it.
...shit. even as i'm forcing my head to focus on the door, as i pull it open, i naturally find my eyes landing on the boy and i think my heart stops. i thought he was attractive? oh man, i was wrong.
he's drop dead gorgeous.
