Fight Or Flight

Chapter 1

June 10th

   "just breath Luna, you'll be fine" says my mom in a raspy voice. "Just remember to be at the gate by seven, and you should make it in time to board the plane."

    We were about 5 minutes from the Desmoines airport to catch my flight to Los Angeles. I have this sick uneven feeling in my stomach. nervousness? anxiety? probably both.

    We arrive at the airport later than we thought due to traffic. Though the airport has lots of commotion, It isn't very crowded for a Saturday. I climbed out of my moms car grasping my carry-on bag. Its full of colored pencils, my laptop, and a notebook . I began sobbing knowing this was the last time I'd be seeing my mom until the holidays. I walked to the back of the car, grabbed my suitcase, and walked over to hug her goodbye. We hugged until i could no longer feel anything but my head throbbing from crying. "You'll be fine Luna" she said, as she leaned towards me to plant a kiss on my forehead. "I love you" i said hoarsely as streams of tears traveled down my cheeks. 

    I turned towards the airports entrance. I slowly started walking down the sidewalk, trying not to turn my head around. Knowing if i did, id start running back for her. I was scared. Lonely. The first time id been away from my mothers side, and I happened to be traveling half way across the country from her. 

   I walked through the main entrance, trying to find my way across the lines of people in front of me. I patiently waited behind the desk to claim my flight ticket, when i heard a soft voice next to me. "Are you lost dear?" an elderly lady asked sincerely. "What? Oh no sorry i was just spaced off." i said in embarrassment. "Oh well, that's okay dear. But will you excuse me? I'm in quite a hurry." she said while walking past me. The line had moved on to where i was finally able to check my suitcase in. I eventually got my ticket and started heading to the security gate. "It's 6:25, that leaves me.. 35 minutes to get to my plane" i mumbled to myself.
