Chapter Twenty Four: Life After Ginger

Lottie's Point of View

"Holy ... shit."

"You really couldn't make it up." I raised my eyebrows. Alex, Hermione, Ginny and I were sitting in our dorm. I'd just relayed yesterday for them,

"I really couldn't possibly get more excited." Hermione said, quite unexcitedly,

"I don't get why it's a big deal. I mean, it's only three words." Alex shrugged. She was plaiting Ginny's hair,

"Yes but Alex, it's three important words. They show and mean a great deal more than they appear to to a bystander." Hermione raised her eyebrows,

"I'm more shocked than excited." I frowned, "Is that right?"

"I wouldn't know, so I wouldn't like to say." Hermione nodded,

"It must mean something though, right?"

"It doesn't have to." I answered Ginny, "He maybe only said it because they left."

"Poppycock." Ginny shook her head, "George would not say something like that for the fun of it, especially to you."

"And especially because he's a girl." Alex followed. I squinted my eyes at her,

"You know what?" Hermione said, getting up and searching through my trunk,

"Yes Hermione, please rifle through my clothes and toiletries." I raised my eyebrows. Ginny snorted slightly as Hermione tutted. Her head reappeared from my trunk and she handed me some parchment,

"Write him. Go on, ask him."

"No."

"Yes."

"No." I repeated, placing the parchment on my bed, "Stupid idea."

"Yes. Brilliant idea." Alex supported Hermione, "Can't believe I didn't think of it myself."

"No. No, I'm not." I turned away from the parchment, "I will wait and I will ask him in person."

"You are such a proper person." Hermione pointed at me as she sat down. I tried not to look to smug,

"I don't want to seem too clingy either."

"And there it goes."

"I JUST CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!"

"Alex, they left literally four days ago." I rolled my eyes, entering the common room from the dormitories with an apple in both hands,

"Four days too long!" Alex was sprawled out in front of the fire surrounded by Potions, Arithmancy and Transfiguration textbooks with tears streaming down her face. I threw her an apple and she was sat up straight in a blink, catching it easily and gnawing on the stork. I sat on the couch and placed my feet on the coffee table, biting into my own apple,

"Shouldn't you be more worried about your NEWTS?" Hermione asked. She and another girl was sitting on the opposite couch. I looked her dead in the eye, hoping she would drop it, and when she didn't, I shrugged,

"Eh, probably."

"What's your first exam?" Hermione sighed deeply, closing her book and moving to sit at my side,
