Prologue

"Father?" questioned young Y/N, "Why can't I learn how to shoot one of those?" She pointed at the gun hung over their fireplace. Most of the time Y/n was outside playing in the mud with her little brothers or shooting her slingshot at random objects around their house. Of course, her mother always scolded her for running around wasting her time, when she should be learning to cook and sew. "Do you believe any man would want you as their wife if you can't cook or clean?" Her mother would always say.

Her father would always tell her mother that she shouldn't be worrying about that stuff at this age, Y/N would grow out of it." Her father would always reply. Her father taught her how to read and write, By the age of, ten she wrote her first book, displaying it to her father and their servants, yet keeping it a secret from her mother. She would scold Y/N if she were to ever find out about her interests in literature, law, and guns.

Now at age eighteen, Y/N is finally the age that her father said she would teach her. Y/n had written a letter to father, proposing the idea of Y/N learning self-defense, when she was 16.

Dear, Father

Have you noticed, how the people have been acting? They are petrified about just the thought of King George declaring war against the colonies. British troops, Redcoats are stationed at every corner, riots occur almost every night! What would happen if havoc broke out, and you were gone, who would protect our family, the boys are too young, and Mother certainly can't do it. Father, please I'm begging you teach me how to defend myself, our family, if a war would ever reach our land, Please.
