I didn't have much growing up but it was enough for me; I was happy. That is until the day it happened.
It was a normal day just like any other. Dad had just got back from a mission for Avalon and my mom was staying home until my sorcery got better because at that point I could barely cast iron mill. I was inside playing with my offerings, my favourites were my iron mill and my iron speartip. I couldn't cast iron speartip, it was way out of my skill level it was gifted to me by my dad, Nyrax. I was okay with iron mill which launches a flurry of metal blades at one or more foes.
My mom was preparing food for me and dad, she did a lot of the house work mostly because dad was always working and I had to practice using my offerings, but mistaking her for a common house wife could get you killed, as she was just as skilled in sorcery as my father was. "Nyrax, you're home early!" My mother said with a joyous tone, she was always happy to see him come back home since working for Avalon is a dangerous job. Unfortunately, there's not much else a sorcerer can do for work. Sorcerers don't get paid in cash like humans would, we haven't much need for money and we don't even have to eat as much as them. We get paid in lacrima and offerings. Offerings are a must for sorcerers, one would take up to six into battle with them each offering can be used to cast spells but almost all are different, so I have to be carful using them because rapidly using a offering can and will destroy it. Lacrima on the other had is very different from offerings. Lacrima can be used to undo some damage that spells cannot.
"Yeah just another carnivorous slime, not much of a job if you know what you're doing." My dad was so cool. He could take out fiends like they were nothing, wiping out one after another like it was a sport. However, like him, I would often forget about my own healing seed offering. Luckily for me, I'd never been in a real battle at that point I was only 13 years old, where as my father had been in many. Of course at that time, I had no idea what the actual burden of working for Avalon would be like until my first mission.
Just as I was about to ask dad if he could teach me more today, a loud roar pierced the silence making my dad's smile drop and was replaced with a look I couldn't quite decipher, "Sileen, grab Thorn and get to the basement." As my gaze drifted from my stern father to my mother, I could see tears swelling in her eyes as she grabbed my arm and ran towards the old basement hatch, she lifted it with ease and hurried me down the stairs, and slammed it behind us, but there was no us in the celler; I was alone. I rushed to open the latch but as I approached, I heard a loud scraping sound. My mother had pushed something over the latch so I couldn't get out. "MOM?!" I shouted over and over but she must have been out of ear shot, the sound of fighting could be heard in the distance. Growing up in the town of Tartarus had been troublesome, the town was frequently raided by bandits, however bandits wouldn't cause this much fear as to make my mother lock me in the basement. After hours of trying to get out, and hearing the clashing, roars of combat, it became quiet and I could smell this terrible odor that had never before assaulted my senses.
