"Oh, Darling! You look wonderful!" My mom mused, clasping her hands together.
"Mom, it's a Valentines Day dance, not Prom." I giggled.
"You still look-"
"Mom." I smiled at her.
"Ok, what do you plan on doing with your hair?"
"I- have no idea." I sighed.
Once my mom helped me with my hair, because I have absolutely no coordination in the back, I found a pair of white sandals to pair with my dress. I stepped in front of my mirror and smiled. My hair was the best part in my opinion. It was braided from the lower right into a high ponytail on the left backside of my head. Thankfully the hair curler was working so we curled it at the ends of the ponytail. Then, the doorbell rang.
"Who's that?" My mom asked.
"Audrey's picking me up." I answered. She nodded and walked me down the stairs. I opened the door to see Audrey smiling on the other side.
~~~~~
"So who does your mom think you're going with?" Audrey asked, eyeing me from the driver seat of her car.
"A group of friends." I replied, grinning. I put my hand on hers that was resting on the console.
"You haven't told her yet?"
"No, and I don't know when I will, have you?"
"No."
"Then we're even." I gave her a chuckle, "Who's taking Riley?"
"I'm not sure, honestly. Who's taking Sophie?"
"It could be anyone, but I'm willing to take a bet on Cam."
"Cam Johnson?"
"Yeah, he's been peeking at her for a long time, and you know Sophie, she kinda falls for everyone."
"That's understandable. Wanna listen to some music?"
"Sure, I'll play." I said, plugging my phone into the car and playing my song of the week, "Girls Like Girls" by Hayley Kiyoko.
~~~~~
Audrey opened the car door for me and shut it as well. We looked both ways before crossing the parking lot into the main doors of the school. The dance was in the huge Cafeteria, so we made our way there. We paid our admission and walked over to the punch table where Riley was waiting for us.
"Who brought you, Riles?" Audrey inquired.
"Me." Riley answered with a serious face.
"You came by yourself?" I asked.
"Yeah."
"Woah, independence!" Audrey cheered, tossing a small fist in the air. This made me smile as I kissed her on the cheek.
"Omg are you two together?" A girl I didn't recognize asked as she came up, taking a cup of punch.
"Uhh, yes?" I stated in question.
"That's gay! Gays are going to Hell, God says so." She said this with a sneer on her face and it enraged me.
"Oh no, me, in Hell, surrounded by more homosexuals and my girlfriend! What will I do?" Audrey retorted with a dramatic and sarcastic voice, this lightened my mood. The girl came back biting though,
"That's not a good thing, God hates homos and they will eternally burn for choosing to be like that. It's not natural, Adam and Eve are boy and girl and that's how it is meant to be."
"Not natural? Excuse me?" Audrey snarled, "Homosexuality has been dated back to the very early days of life! And you can shut your trap, do you know how many animals are homosexual? Penguins, geese, dogs, cats, and some monkeys to name a few!"
"Whatever, gays are monsters, that's a fact." The girl flipped her hair.
"I think you're the real monster." Riley finally spoke up, standing in front of Audrey and I.
"Let me guess, you're a gay too?!"
"Actually I'm not. But I can't make any promises the principal won't hear about this, Janessa."
"Sure, Honey, the principal hates gays just like God. He even says in the Bible that man and man aren't supposed to lie together." At this final rebuttal, Audrey lunged at her. I caught her by the wrist and wrapped myself around her torso, trapping her arms in my own.
"You're lucky my girl is holding me back, or you'd have a black eye!" Audrey shouted. I covered her mouth and turned her to face me.
"Audrey..." I mumbled.
"She was going to hurt you." She said with tears forming in her eyes.
"No she wasn't, it's ok." I replied, taking Audrey's face in my hands. A tear rolled down her cheek and I took her by the hand to lead her into the bathroom.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know what I was doing-"
"Babe." I simply said, leaning in and hugging Audrey close. She buried her face in my neck and held me tight. Soon her silent tears turned into a small laugh.
"What?" I asked.
"Nothing, I was just thinking about how nice you smell." She chuckled. I pulled away and wiped the tear from her face. She smiled at me and took in a breath to start talking again.
"I still lunged, Katelyn! I-" I cut her off by smashing my face on hers. She soon did the same but started walking. Soon enough, I ran into the other side of the little hallway that led into the ladies room. Audrey pulled away.
"So, the other day, I believe we were interrupted after gym class." She said. I smiled. Audrey took a hold of my hips and pressed me against the wall. My stomach churned with so many emotions, but, in the end, I did kiss back.

Hehehe! We hope you enjoyed that chapter, we wanted it to be a little more realistic, because hey, not all people are super supportive of the LGBTQ community and I thought I'd add in a little somethin somethin to acknowledge that.
Also! Katelyn and Audrey are gettin' pretty intense hm? What do you think?
Let us know!
