"Hey, Audrey," James stood in front of me scratching his neck. He almost looked nervous.
"Hi, James," I greeted him with a small smile.
"I was wondering... umm..." James started but trailed off at the end.
"Dude, spit it out already," I crossed my arms.
"I was wandering if you would like to go to the Valentines Day dance with me?" James asked me with a hopeful look in his eyes.
"Oh... umm..." I felt Katelyn shuffle beside me. "I'm already going with someone. Sorry dude."
"Someone already asked you? Who?" James questioned.
I held Katelyn's hand and pulled her closer to me. James looked down at our intertwined hands and furrowed his brows.
"Oh," he stated very slowly, "I didn't... I didn't know you rolled that way."
I nodded my head as we watched James walk away slightly sulking with his hands balled into tight fists. I noticed that Katelyn looked uncertain about the whole situation that just occurred.
"Well," I laughed a little, "that went a whole lot smoother than I expected."
"Yeah," Katelyn agreed.
~~The next week (Valentines Day)~~
The Valentines Day dance is today at 7:00 p.m. It's currently 4:15 because I just got in from school. I have a little less than three hours to get ready.
I spend about thirty minutes searching for a dress to wear.
"Nope. Nope. Nope," I go through my closet trying to find something decent. "No, too summer-y. Too many flowers. This one is too bright. I'm not trying to look like the sun!" I say as I toss a bright yellow dress to the side.
I finally decide on a lovely red velvet dress. I put it on and it fits perfectly. I spend the rest of my time fixing my hair and putting on makeup. Of course, not too much makeup. I'm not trying to look like a prostitute or whatever. I look in the mirror one last time to make sure I look presentable. Deciding that everything is somewhat perfect, I walk out of my house to pick up Katelyn.
Katelyn's POV
I stood in front of my body mirror and sighed. I was still confused about what happened during lunch, why would James ask-ooooh. He likes Audrey, my girlfriend. Crap.
I shook my head and kept getting ready. I dug through the hangers in my closet with dresses of all colors and styles. I huffed when I found nothing after fifteen minutes or so.
Knock knock
"Come in!" I shouted, diving into the back of my closet.
"Katelyn, honey. Where are you?" My mother asked from what sounded like the doorway.
"In the closet!" I shouted again, this time giggling after what I said went through my own mind.
"I have something for you." She softly stated, coming in and sitting on my bed as it squeaked. I pulled myself from the abyss that was my closet and sat next to her. In her arms she held a white box that was almost the size of a laptop.
"Who is taking you to this dance?" She inquired. 'Actually I'm taking someone to this dance' I thought,
"Audrey, Riley, Sophie and I are going in a group. Boys scare me." I chuckled nervously at my lie. My mom gave me a smile and set the box on my lap.
"Well I got you something at the mall today." She grinned. I carefully opened the box and found a deep pink knee length dress that had lace roses on the left shoulder strap, the right was nonexistent.
"Mom..." I gaped at the dress in awe. It was beautiful!
"Can I wear it?" I asked as I looked up to see her nodding. I smiled and rushed into the bathroom to change. I came out and walked back across the hall.
