“Don’t you worry now, Jen, before you know it you’ll be the one getting married, and I will be your matron of honor.”
Jen shook her finger in mock reprimand.
“Now, what makes you think you’ll be matron of honor?”
Bethany smiled mischievously and began to list her reasons.
“Well, there’s the fact that I’m pretty sure I am the only married friend you have now. Also, I’m your best friend, and if you don’t make me your matron of honor, I won’t come to your bachelorette party, and-“
Jen held her hands up in surrender. “All right, if you stop talking and get ready for your reception, I’ll promise you can be my matron of honor.”
Bethany gasped, playfulness gone.
“Oh my goodness, I almost forgot about the reception! Hurry, help me change before the guests start thinking I’m a runaway bride.”

“Congratulations!”
“Congrats, Bethany!”
“I hope you have a long and happy marriage!”
“Best of luck!”
Bethany smiled and nodded at the bombardment of well wishers gathered around Henry and her. Everyone wanted to bless the young couple and give them advice for future reference.
The crowd slowly diminished as relatives and friends each got their word in and wandered off to chat with one another, eat, or hit the dance floor. Soon it was just Henry, Bethany, their parents, Jen, and Henry’s best man Dave.
Bethany sighed in relief as she could finally take a deep breath without people assaulting her. She knew they meant well, but was glad they left to enjoy the party.
“Are you ready to dance, Mrs. Chandler?” Henry whispered in her ear.
Bethany beamed up at her husband. Her husband. That would certainly take some getting used to.
Henry’s deep blue eyes twinkled humorously at her extreme happiness. She reached up to brush back a lock of his dirty blonde hair.
“I’m ready, Mr. Chandler,” she replied softly.
He gently took Bethany’s hand and pulled her onto the dance floor, where someone quickly changed the song to the one they had requested. Their song.
I never had no one
I could count on
I've been let down so many times
I was tired of hurtin'
So tired of searchin'
'Til you walked into my life…
“My Best Friend” by Tim McGraw started playing. I was whisked back in time to the time when we had first danced to this song less than a year ago, when it first came out. I love Tim McGraw’s songs.
“You know you’re my best friend,” Henry said quietly, giving me one of his special smiles meant only for me.
My heartbeat quickened and I leaned my forehead against his, saying, “You’re my best friend, too.”
Faintly I heard applause in the background, but I ignored it. It was only the two of us, just like when we first met. As we gazed into each other’s eyes, I knew that we would love each other forever. We were ready to meet our future, hand in hand.
