The One by Kodaline
It is just like any other day.
She lay there, on his bed, in his shirt, feeling utterly exhausted. Her activities have taken a toll on her body, and she hopes she could recuperate enough to face another challenging day ahead.
Yet, she manages to smile as she looks around.
There, on his bedside table, sits a vase of freshly picked flowers, a glass of milk, and her favorite cookies. She always loves waking up like this and today is no exemption.
She pulls herself up to read the note on the food tray. It says,
Good morning, love. I hope I already made your day on our anniversary. I love you!
He always makes her day. No matter the effort put in, how little or extravagant it is, she appreciates. For gone are the days when every girl gets to experience such.
Refreshed and invigorated, she folds the note, snatches a cookie and dips it in the milk. Just in time, the love of her life barges in.
"How's your morning?" he asks of her, sitting beside her. "I'm sorry I didn't prepare something big for today."
She kisses him on the lips briefly, and giggled. "My mornings have never been better," she declares.
His face softens, and a smile creeps up his lips. "You're not mad? Disappointed?"
Her eyebrows furrow at the question. Sure, it's their anniversary, and she knows how anniversary celebrations go. They are grand and filled with surprises. And this, today, is not of the kind. But it doesn't make it any less memorable.
She looks over at the man her heart has grown fond of, and she could almost smile at the hesitation on his face now. Instead, she takes a bite at her cookie.
"You will always be enough."
He looks over at her, grabs her waist and brushes her forehead with a kiss. "God, I love you," he whispers as he caresses her in his arms.
He cannot fathom what he has done to deserve such an unassuming lady. Sometimes, insecurities eat him, too, and he swears he could almost let go of her. But she always sticks around. He could not be more thankful. For without her, he surely does not know what to make of himself.
She slaps his arm playfully, trying to break free from being cocooned. "And I love you, too. Happy anniversary, babe."
He frees her momentarily so she could eat some more but he maintains the close proximity. He silently watches her, and he realizes why he is head over heels for the girl. When he couldn't take it anymore, he breaks his own trance.
"You wanna know why I didn't prepare much?"
She throws him a surprised look, then pretends to think. "Hmmm. Kasi kuripot ka?"
"No, silly," he pinches her nose to which she grimaces. "Naisip ko lang, I don't want our relationship to be defined by the years we are together. Gusto ko, just like any other day lang. The normal things we do. Our norm is my kind of special. So, 365 days of breakfasts."
"365 days of hatid sundo?"
He nods.
"365 days of working out together?"
He nods.
"365 days of karaoke sessions on the road kasi traffic?"
He laughs, and nods.
"365 days of pagsusungit?"
His smile widens, and he confirms.
"365 days of..."
