It was a summer morning, and it hadn't been a long time ago since it was the last day of my junior year at my high school, Hunter High school. A decent school, but it was better than Cyprus High school or Granger High school in my honest opinion. Had school gone by so fast in a beaming yellow flash? I couldn't believe it, because it was so fast. Only in the summer, would it seem awkward to wake up with a feeling of deja vu over and over again because of my remembrance of my patterns to get up for school.
My quiet short aunt stood at the kitchen floors, staring at the crimson red shiny kettle in front of her, filled up with water that was once cold and came from the sink. Of course, it was steaming, and hissing at her every small second. "You going to make some coffee?" I ask the obvious question. She nods, shifting in her body before facing me, dull gray eyes staring up at me with a faint feel as though I could resemble or be someone else to her. "Yes, it's not only America's most used beverage emoji, but it also wakes you up." She adds.
I watch her work her wonders as she sets the kettle to the side of the stove. "Would you like some, sweetie?" She asks, as I shake my head, fixing my ruffled black sock that was parted from my heel. "No thank you. There's no need for coffee since I don't have school anymore, that being said, I can finally regain all that sleep I lost over the school months." I add, as she laughs softly. "Is that so? Who procrastinated a few days before the ACTs?" She grins, waiting for my sheepish response.
"Me. But I got a 16..." I mutter, trying my hardest to forget that mess of a test, and slumped down on a nearby wooden light brown chair. My aunt looks at me in amusement, before spotting the mail man's mini white van pull foward, darting at our cliché plain mailbox. "Oh? Mail?" I say, peering through the slightly transparent shadow curtains. My aunt turns her head to me to look. "Rainia, will you please get the mail?" My aunt asks politely, as I nod. "Of course, I'll be right back, I say, tossing forward my white bunny slippers.
My feet lunge inside as I scurry out of our small house and walk through the dull rocky path until I reach our front lawn, neatly decorated with an orchestra of an arrangement of colorful flowers. Strange, it was only a mere seconds ago that the mailman was here, he should at least be making his way to the house next to us, but he's gone. He and the van. I look around before letting my ear twitch to hear the soft humming of the chubby black tires pressing against the neighborhood road. Yet, I don't hear it. I shrug it off before opening up the mailbox.
Nothing? That simply can't be! I grumble before lunging my right hand forward, immediately feeling the sturdy envelope, and what seemed to be a puffy or just smooth texture on it. It must be wording, Rainia, just yank it out of the damn mailbox and look at the letter. I do as my raging thoughts plead me to do, and grasp the envelope's left edge within my fingertips and pull out, seeing it's a black envelope instead of the normal white envelope. On the front, I can see a whole arrangements of words written.

I stare at the letter, not knowing of what emotions raged deep inside me, all I knew was that I felt anxious and confused the most. I pick at the triangle top, before carefully taking it off the bottom part, seeing a cardstock red paper inside, and beautiful cursive in what seemed to be written in a black sharpie, yet it had shimmer glitter like gel pens did. I shrugged a bit before deciding to read the small letter with curiosity spreading throughout my brain like a river.
Dear Rainia,
I know this seems so sudden and quick to finally be hearing from your mother. You must feel shocked or angry at me, I don't blame you. But I think the time is right to finally catch up with each other. Forget your lunatic aunt Mai, please do not notify her of your letter from me, she shall forbid us from ever meeting. If you don't believe me, I know something she doesn't know. On the left side of your neck, rests your birthmark, a black raindrop with blue outlining it. I have the same one too. Please my daughter, see me as soon as possible.
With my deepest love and affection I shall soon give you,
Your mother.
I bit my bottom lip, a bit nervous to even hold this letter within my hands. It was as if holding it was a sin. A dark sin that could never be forgiven. Slowly, I face my house, or what will used to be. Would I regret the decision of leaving my aunt? She practically raised me, but always kept my past a secret from me, and for that, I simply cannot forgive her. I stare at the letter.
I think it's time to see my mother again.
