Chapter One

The clanging of metal and the whoosh of steam filled the room, dimly lit lamps casting a glow in the windowless workshop. Walter Worker Lilith sat on a stool, studying Peters blueprints as she twiddled a wrench in her hands before turning to the robot behind her and tightening up a bolt
"Okay, she's almost ready to be powered on for the first time..."
She mumbled to herself as she fiddled with some wires, suddenly without a warning the robot stood jerk upright, mechanical noises creaking and grinding as steam flew out of her many vents
"Okay uh... 17-7153 this is your first test run, how are you doing?"
Lilith asked as she scrambled for a notepad to take notes, the robot opened her mouth and steam, yet again, billowed into the air. A series of clunks and strange humming followed before a drawn out "h-heoww?" Was eventually muttered in a vain attempt to replicate the English language. Lilith sighed and placed her head in her hands "of course we haven't taught you any speech yet, we should probably just try to test out what we can then" she explained, scratching her head in thought. Consulting her notes, she slowly raised up an arm, indicating for the robot to follow in an effort to try and test the functions, the robot followed the movements with ease. This continued with most other basic movements and functions, both Lilith and the bot grinning as it went along. Lilith sat backwards and took notes "your basic functions seem to be working correctly regardless of your current state, sorry about the lack of a hand" the Walter worker giggled. Leaning back on a chair Lilith smiled, thoughts rushing through her head, mainly how lucky she was to be able to finish making a bot herself rather than just testing it. Sure it was near completion and just missing a hand and forearm and a lot of testing to make sure it functions, but she still gets to work on some complex stuff which is extremely exciting. "That should be us done for the day!" Lilith explained, smiling at the robot as she placed down the notes and started to tidy the table "it'll be a while till you're next turned on as I would like to finish your arm first but we did need to test that you do actually power up, until next time sweetie!" The girl smiled at the robot again before powering her off and leaving the room, flicking the lights off as she left and closing a door.
It wasn't long before the room lit up again, a sharp green flooding the room as the robot powered on, completely on her own accord. Curious eyes watched over the room as quiet clunking filled the air as small steps were taken, one curious hand running over tools and objects that littered the tables in messy attempts. Slowly after walking for a while, the robot returned to her station and powered down, the lights slowly dimming and the room falling back into darkness once more.
