It is better to be a hacker. If you are a black hat hacker, you most likely will get arrested, if you are a grey hat hacker, you will get in trouble and if you are a white hat you will not get in trouble because you are hacking for security and they know that you are hacking. If you go around saying you are a hacker you'll probably get in a little bit of trouble, not serious though. This is because of how commonly misused the word "hacker" is but of you ho around saying your a cracker, hackers will know what you mean and tell but other people will call you racist because cracker can mean white or blanco.
