~Chapter 1~

Clover

Merilda's pink polished nails dug into her skin like sharp claws. She winced a little, trying to struggle free from her grasp.

"You just ruin everything!" Merilda screamed at her. Her voice almost ripped her ears out. Merilda continued to drag her along the hallways, heading out to the back door of the school.

Her gaze wandered along Merilda Larrenday's coffee stained uniform. She recalled, a few minutes ago, when she accidentally bumped into the daughter of a rich businessman, causing her to stain her shirt.

Merilda continued to drag the helpless girl outside, where the school field and the forest were. The rain poured outside, the gray clouds covered the sky and the weather made the lonely landscape dull.

"Maybe this was why your parents left you! You're just so horrible!" Merilda screamed over the rain. The girl shut her eyes tightly and gulped. Her parents-she doesn't even know who they were- were a sensitive subject for her. Others would even title her as 'The Little Orphaned Girl of the School'.

Merilda gave her a strong push then she fell facefirst into the mud. She was immediately soaked by the rainwater and stained with the icky mud. Merilda watched her cruelly and cackled like a witch. She flicked her jet black hair in satisfaction and headed inside.

It took the girl, who was named Clover, several attempts to sit up. She failed for the mud was slippery and she would always fall again facefirst into it.

Finally, Clover managed to stand up and and trudge through the wet grass. Mud and water was still dripping from her as she sat under a tree for shelter. She took off her square rimmed glasses and began to wipe it on her sweater. Her face was covered in dirt and even her braces had some mud on it. Sighing, she ran her hand into her curly wet hair and leaned back.

Clover spotted a strange figure leaning on the school's walls. It seems to be watching or staring at her. She squinted, trying to make out what the blurry figure was-or who. She desperately put on her still stained glasses and looked once more at the figure.

He had jet black hair, like Merilda's and a face every girl would flirt for. His hands were casually digging into his pockets and he was staring at-maybe-Clover with a serious look. Oh, good. she thought, Ashton Harper, the wicked witch's boyfriend.

Clover averted her gaze quickly and stood up. From head to toe, she was covered in mud and drenched in water. She made her through the field as the rain decreased into a light drizzle and the sun was peeking behind the clouds.

Merilda's boyfriend was nowhere in sight as Clover entered Eastern Washington Private Boarding School. Everyone was definitely in their classes because lunch was over. Alone, Clover walked through the main hall, trailing mud and dirt on the shiny marble floor.

I'll clean that uplater, Clover reminded herself.

She decided to take the stairs since she couldn't risk cleaning the school's elevators. She ran past multiple flights of stairs until she reached the girls' rooms' floor. Her room was at the far end of one corridor and is smaller than all the rest. She grabbed her key card-thank goodness it wasn't wet- from her pocket and swiped it on the doorknob. With the usual beep, the door opened easily.

Clover stepped inside her room. There was her bed parallel to one wall and is beside a big window, giving a full view of the field and forest. A door leading to the bathroom was on one side and so was her closet and study desk.

She got out of her dirty clothes and got in the bathroom for a shower. After changing into a fresh new uniform, she sat on her bed and leaned back on the pillows. She didn't really mind missing one period. Clover suddenly remembered about the mess she left in the hall.
