Chapter 4

" Kelly. Autumn. Meet Eve." Liam said.

" Hi." she smiled. " Do you mind if I sit here?" she asked me nodding her head towards the beanbag.

" Yeah sure. Here Liam," I threw him a cushion. Jays head popped round as he asked the four new people as they bombarded him. Kelly laughed.

"Kel, newbie Autumn ain't new anymore, look, this is Holly,"

" Hey ugs," some slut said. Her fake hair looked like yellow rags, her orange tan was streaky, uneven  layers of make up and - oh its just the most disgusting thing ever. Kelly stood up.

" Luke mate,"

" I'll go to the room," she giggled. Luke told her where to go.

" Luke. When we said bring a girl then you can stay, we didn't say a flipping SLUT!"

" Hmph. Well she fucks good." he flounced off like a gay person.

" Ugh." Kelly slammed the door shut behind him. Liam rolled his eyes.

Jay and Zac returned with our tea.

" Hiya," they both said in unison too Liam and Eve. Liam introduced her and told them about Holly and Luke.

" Ew. You can hear it." Jay commented. I grabbed my chips if the side table and let everyone else dive in for their stuff. Zac came and sat down next to me, closer than excepted. Once everyone had their things, Kelly put the news on.

That too was not excepted. A woman's familiar face of a mug shot flashed up on the screen. The room fell quiet.

"Autumn. Is that your mum?" someone said. I didn't know who it was. She had been put in jail, for neglecting me. They showed picture of the flat. My room. Up in flames. Burnt. She burnt my bedroom. I screamed, throwing my chips up everywhere.

I stomped off into my room. Before I knew it I was asleep.

When I woke up, I felt light circles being traced along my back. My pillow was stained and sodden. I felt arms around me.

"Its OK. She's gone now. You have us. We're all like family here.,"

" She burnt my life."

" You had all your absolute favourite possessions here,"

" That clip. When she said I had took her life savings… It was true. How do think I'm living here?"

" Ssshhh, everything's OK."

What?

My boyfriend committed suicide in front if my eyes, so did my best friend. I witnessed the murder of my dad. Everything's OK.

Sure.

I hunched up squeezing my all time favourite teddy, Dapple. A little rabbit that's material is still so soft, even after eighteen years.

After a few hours of comforting me, with a comfortable silence between us, a soft tap came at the door.

"Would be OK to speak to someone else?" Zac asked kindly.

" Well we can't stay like this forever as much as I would like to," I replied.

"OK. Come in," he called.

Eve padded in. She sat in front of me.

" I something to confess. You might remember," She said softly

"What?" I gasped.

" Look Eve, if its something bad just shut up now, and don't make things worse," Zac hissed.

She ignored him.

"Adam Pick. I was pregent with his baby,"

" He killed it."

" No Autumn. He killed your dad. He meant to put it in mine! My mum was best friends with yours! My baby is out there!" she screamed pointing to the window with aggression. " I want to be friends with you! Honestly I do! Help me find this child! Help me find my daughter. Your her step- mum! Autumn Hartley, you are Tess Picks step mum!" she screamed.

I'm a step mum. To the daughter of the boy who committed suicide in front of me. Who left me a rare suicide note. I had his ex asking me to help her find this step child of mine.

"I'll do it."
