I sit in my room, surrounded by the silence. The light tapping of the rain against my window and my thoughts are the only things that I can hear. The silence surrounds me, and I fill with anxiety, I can't be alone with my thoughts. The tapping of the rain starts to become silent, and my thoughts become more clear, the voices, the sounds, it all starts to haunt me once again. I try to push them away, but once again I can't. A vivid and haunting picture appears in my mind, the woods, the woods of my nightmares, the woods where my life fell apart. My eyes close and I open them somewhere new. I'm no longer in my room but in the woods, I start to scream and I hear something near me. I run, I run fast, then something grabs my wrist.
"Hailey! Hailey wake up, you need to stop."
My eyes open and and my breathing is heavy, my best friend Cora holds my wrist tightly.
"Cora let go of me,"
"Hailey you have to stop. The woods haunt all of us but you can't keep doing this, you need to-"
I cut her off,
"Cora now!"
She releases and hugs me tight. I stay still accepting her hug but not returning the hug. She gets up and leaves, after what seems like forever, and once I am alone.
I get up and walk to the window, I sit and look out, the light drizzle of rain is calming to watch. I start to write something in my notebook, "I sit here watching the rain, that once was something but now has dwindled away to nothing..." I look up from the page and sigh, "...we are similar. The rain and I, we have both dwindled to nothingness and eventually we'll both be gone. The sun will still shine even though we are gone. Only missed by some, and forgotten by most." I place my notebook down and walk out of my room. The rain still drips and will continue until it is gone, and once again I can say the same for me. Soon the time will come.
