"Five minutes?" The Colonel asked.
"Yes. Five minutes. Keep me informed on the co-ordinates." Alèv said. She was just a mere five percent away from downloading the data of the drug mafia Shackelbolt.
She was hiding in the air conditioning vent of the building in which the mafia's dealing business was done.
"They are three minutes from approaching the building, Alèv." The Colonel's voice informed her.
"Okay. Just three percent is left." She said, a little panic rising in her chest.
The green bar was approaching the end. It seemed like eternity to Alèv.She was sweating in the conjusted atmosphere of the vent plus her black leather jacket, tights and boots weren't helping much.
Ninety Eight.
Ninety Nine.
Hundred.
The same moment she slammed the laptop and jumped down from the vent.
"Alèv, Alè-" The Colonel's voice cracked due to some signal interference.
She chose to take care of it later.
She took out the drive and stuffed it deep inside the bag which was beside the desk. She left the laptop on the same desk and headed out as fast as possible.
"In a hurry, sweetheart?" A heavy man's voice welcomed her in the corridor.
Shackelbolt and his goons were right in front of her, stepping towards her slowly.
Okay, stay calm. So the Colonel was trying to tell me about this. Okay, there's an exit right behind me to the roof. Just go there in three, two, one...
She immediately obeyed her conscious and sprinted with all her strength in her legs, towards the door. She knew that all of them were behind her.
In a minute she was past the rusted door, on the stairs and skipping them two at a time.
She was running breathlessly till she found herself at the end of the rooftop. The goons were right behind her. She did not have much of a choice.
She took a detour by running on the edge of the rooftop carefully so that she remained out of the grip of the goons.
I can't believe I'm going to do this again.
She ducked, pushed and slid out of the reach of there grip till she was half way around the rooftop.
Then she again sprinted with all her strength towards the edge and took a long leap towards the ground. Instead she landed on one of the vans that Shackelbolt had.
"GET HER !!" Shackelbolt's heavy voice called out.
It seemed that he had a lot of men as many came out immediately from the ground floor of the building chasing her.
Alèv did not stop as she started to run towards the fence that would be her ultimate escape. She held the bag tightly to avoid it from sliding away.
Suddenly, a hard metal rod scraped her shoulder and fell in front of her. This made her really angry.
She pushed on one end of the fallen rod with her right foot, which caused it to lift up in the air a little and kicked it with her left foot that sent it straight towards a man in the middle who was the nearest.
The rod stuck him right in the groin and he fell, yelping.
Alèv gave a smirk and proceeded towards the fence.
A garbage box was just besides it. She used it as a leverage to reach the height of the fence.
Some men were just inches apart from her feet.
She lifted her legs as high she could and instead of climbing up and down the fence, she had to jump above it in one go.
She landed on the ground with a loud thud as she felt her ankle twist.
"Get the keys you assholes!!" She saw Shackelbolt darting towards his goons with his potbelly bouncing in front of him.
It was dark and deserted in the street outside the building. She took it as a chance to seek out as soon as possible before they could get the locks. She dragged her foot a little towards the forest on one side of the road.
"Hello? Hello? Colonel? Colonel?" She said.
"Hello? Alèv? Can you hear me?" She felt some relief wash over her on hearing his voice.
"Are you okay? Did you get the file?" He asked firmly.
"Yes I did. And I am okay. Thank you for your concern" She said the last bit sarcastically.
"Where are you? I hope the transmission is good."
"Yes it is. What happened back then?"
"I think they activated some force field around that shack so that no electromagnetic waves could get though. That helped easy data transmissions from their computers without us knowing about it."
"Well good for them." She said, exhausted from all the work back there.
"I'll be with you in fifteen minutes."
"Certainly." He said and the signal went cold.
Well all she had to do was drag through the forest till she could find the main road.
It was twilight. Well not that anybody would be waiting for her. Except her bed. Which she was dying to get her head on.
The glistening lights from the cars came into sight. It was never difficult for her to get a lift.
This time a old couple stopped in there Volkswagen Rabbit. She explained then how she got lost while camping and climbed into the backseat.
Now all she had to do was wait for them to wake her up till she reached her destination.
If they tried to cross her, she knew how to handle them.
Just another day.
Just another job for her had come to an end, hopefully.
