"Here you go," Emily hands Michael the phone.
"Emma?"
"Oh god Michael. Are you okay?"

He felt the heaviness of his chest fly away.

"Yes, I'm alright," he smiles.
"Michael. It wasn't me. I didn't tell them anything. I would never think of you like that."
"I know Emma. But I've only told you," he shakes his head. "I believe you. I really do."
"What are your going to do now?" She asks.
"They can't hold me any longer without evidence. That's what Mark said, My lawyer."
"Is there?"
"What?"
"Evidence." She says, "don't get me wrong. I know you didn't do it. But someone is trying to make it look like you did."
"I know." I wish I can tell you.
"Do you have any idea who?"
"No."
"I know something is wrong. I know you know something," she says. "So please tell me and let me help."

I can't.

"Nothing is wrong Emma."
"Michael is there anything I can help with?"
"No."
"Dammit Michael just let me help you. Have a little faith in me. Trust me. Like I trusted you."

He feels guilty.
He feels like he is drowning.
And no one can save him.
He is beyond saving.

"Goodbye, Emma."
"Wait!" She shouts.
"What?"
"I went to see your mom."

He feels his heart starting to race, his throat pumping.

"Is she okay?" He says, sounding out of breath.
"I'm not going to lie Michael. She is bad."
"How bad?"
"Real bad."
"She had an attack?"

Silence.

"Yes," she finally says.
"Look, just tell her I'm innocent and will get out soon."
"But it won't be over," she says. "She'll still be stressed. Please tell me everything so I can help."

It's true that she can help. But I can't risk it, he thought.

"There is nothing to tell..."
"Is whatever your hiding worth your moms life?" She sounded horrified, scared to know his answer.
"No, how can you say that?" His face turns pale. "You know how much I love my mom."
"Well you're r willing to risk her life hiding whatever this is."

Silence.

"Go over to my place. Stay with my mom until I'm out."
"Why? What difference will it make? You'll still be a suspect!"
"Just think and you'll know."
"You will tell me what your hiding?"
"Emma, please."
"Is that a yes?"
"No."
"But it isn't a no."
"Yes."
"Okay, see you."
"Yeah." He hangs up.

He looks at Emily with disgust in his eyes.
"Using my friend to get my dirty little secret," he smirks.
"You don't get it," she shakes her head. "You can spend the rest of your life in prison."
"No, I'm going home in a few hours."
"But this won't be over."
"I'm innocent."
"You might be. But we both know that you know something. Something that could backfire at you."
He shakes his head.
"Cooperate, Henderson."
"Can't do."
"Why?"
"I have nothing to say. Can I please be left alone in peace?" He rolls his eyes.
"Uh-huh," She nods and walks out of the room.

Emily P.O.V

We detective's, doctors, teachers, actors.
We humans don't wish for the easy stuff.
We wish for big things, great shiny things; that are out of reach. We don't wish for easy reachable things.
We want the unreachable and we want to shine.
But right now, as I look into his eyes.
I only wish for one thing.
For Michael Henderson to confess.
So I can finally go home.
But I know he won't. He is as stubborn as he is smart.

Of course, we human beings don't know who to trust. But I'm relying on Emma King to help me help Michael.

I am pretty sure he is going to tell Emma about everything. He was basically implicating that.
I have to call her and make sure she won't break the trust I gave her.
I dial up her number and walk to the restroom to have some privacy while I speak with her.

"Hello," she says.
"What did he say?"
"I hate myself," she states. "For lying to him and using his mother to get to him."
"While I can say a few sympathetic lines, I prefer we don't waste anytime."
She sighs. "Yes. He said he'll tell me what he is hiding once he gets out."
"Do you believe him?"
"I do."
"Don't forget that we have a deal, Emma. Do not break my trust."
"I um,"
"I hear hesitation in your voice. Do not break the trust that I easily gave you or you will suffer the consequences."
"What do you mean?"
"I know more than you think. I've done my research."
"Are you threatening me?"
"I'm telling you."
"I just," She sighs. "Never mind. I'll make sure to call you," she says "ASAP."
