McCree wasn't sure he'd heard Hanzo correctly. He stood there in silence, opening and closing his mouth. "I beg yer pardon?" Hanzo went a bit pinker and whispered, "I asked if you were wearing cat ears! If this is for some bizarre 'role-playing' thing-" Hanzo was cut off suddenly by McCree bursting into a fit of laughter. Tears were streaming down his face as he leaned against the wall to keep from falling over. "Y-you... h-wha- wait," he giggled again, "you've got it aaaall wrong, darlin'. Just 'cause I dress like a cowboy don't mean I'm no role player." Hanzo looked a bit startled by McCree's sudden outburst, but his surprise quickly turned to confusion. "Then, what on earth were the ears for?" McCree's laughing took a sudden dive as he regained his composure. "Ah. Yeah. Well, y'see... it's kinda private..." Hanzo raised an eyebrow, "No, not like that. It's, look it's complicated." McCree glanced around. "Winston'll have my hide for this. Right. Okay listen, this is a secret, 'kay? Y' can't go tellin' nobody 'bout this." Hanzo nodded. "On my honor, this will not leave this room." McCree sighed. "Awright. Here goes nothin'," he pulled his hat off to reveal...

Two fuzzy ears.

Hanzo looked dumbfounded. "McCree, no offense, but I just told you I had seen the cat ears. Do I really need to swear secrecy?" McCree held up his pointer finger. "Dog ears. And yes, this is top secret. Winston is the only one that knows. Well, except maybe Tracer. Doggone rascal stole my hat once. Surprised the whole base don't know by now." Hanzo looked puzzled. "I don't understand. You've stated they weren't for role-play, so what-" He paused as something caught his eye. "Did... did your ear move?" McCree grinned and flicked his ear towards Hanzo. "Sure did. Real handy fer listenin' to things from perty far away." He smiled wider and Hanzo jumped. McCree's canines were far longer and sharper than an ordinary man's would be. He moved closer to get a better look. "How is this even..." he reached a hand towards McCree's hair, flinching as he realized what he was doing. McCree was watching, his head cocked sideways (how like a dog), as he took Hanzo's hand in his. "I trust you, darlin'. It's fine." Hanzo carefully moved McCree's hair on the side of his head. The cowboy had no ears! Aside from the obvious... Hanzo drew his hand back as if burned. "How is this even possible?" He asked. McCree shrugged. "Dunno. Far as I know, there's quite a few people like me, but we like to keep to ourselves. I was born with these fuzzballs. Oh, and this," he said as he reached behind him. Hanzo jumped again as a full-sized tail appeared behind McCree. "Aaah, that feels a heck of a lot better. Gets real cramped under my shirt, y'know?" Hanzo watched as the tail wagged slowly from side to side. If he wasn't in such control of his emotions, he'd think he was going crazy. As it stood, however, he was unconvinced the alcohol hadn't taken part in this vision.

McCree, as if sensing the other man's doubt, quickly pinched Hanzo's arm. He flinched and slapped McCree back. McCree only laughed. "I'm sure ya have plenty of questions for me?" Hanzo scowled, but nodded. McCree spread his arms as a symbol of "fire away". Hanzo waited until McCree had sat down before asking. "Is it merely physical traits, or do you have dog instincts as well?" McCree thought for a moment, his tail slowly wagging back and forth. "Well, I reckon I have a few little instincts in there. 'S how I work the ears n' tail, 'cept they mostly got minds of their own. Some people smell kinda off, too. Makes me real snappy with 'em. Heck, I've growled at a few people. Reyes like'ta killed me." Hanzo looked curious. "You have dog senses, then?" McCree nodded, "Right down to the colorblindness. It's not as bad as most people think. And hey, I can hear almost anything. I can even track people by smell." Hanzo looked impressed at that. "Yet you wear a hat that covers your ears entirely. Why purposefully dull your senses?" McCree shrugged. "Can't have people distracted by my extra features. Already got them with my charm." Hanzo scoffed, "And your flashy garb." McCree grinned. "Hey, I'm rubbin' off on ya! That was a good one!" Hanzo smirked. "Then it couldn't have possibly come from you, could it?" McCree guffawed at this, his tail wagging, which brought a fleeting, genuine smile to Hanzo's face. "McCree, may I ask you something?" McCree cocked his head, one ear down and one up. Hanzo inhaled sharply. "May I... touch them? The ears, I mean." He was blushing again. McCree smiled and nodded. "I told you, darlin', I trust you. Been a while since I've had a good petting anyways." Hanzo walked gingerly over and stroked one ear. McCree sat up straighter and his tail thumped against the floor. Hanzo raised an eyebrow inquisitively. McCree blushed, "Just ignore it. Mind of its own." Hanzo smirked and scratched where the fur met skin. McCree gasped and his tail wagged even harder. "Lord have mercy, what was that?!" Hanzo chucked and kept scratching. McCree squirmed, unsure whether or not this was a good thing for Hanzo to know. When Hanzo finally pulled his hand away, McCree actually, honest-to-God whimpered. He brought a hand over his mouth and turned bright red. "I- I swear, Han, that ain't never happened before." Hanzo smiled and sat down next to McCree. "Well, it has never been me before, has it?" McCree looked embarrassed and scooted closer to Hanzo. "Could... could you do that again?" Hanzo smiled and scratched behind the other ear. McCree sighed happily, his tail thumping the floor behind him. Hanzo smiled. "Well, little inu, I believe we'd best get to the common room before the others notice we're absent." McCree nodded, tail still wagging happily. "Yeah, I reckon the kids'll start all kinds of nonsense if we ain't there to corral 'em." The two men exited the room together, Hanzo walking slightly ahead of a fidgety McCree, who was having trouble keeping his tail in his pants. (In more ways than one.) And if McCree followed Hanzo around for the rest of the day wearing a grin the size of Texas, no one said a thing.

Except Tracer. She said a lot of things. Mostly dirty ones.
