Dear Kai,
I remember the first time I saw you. It was the first day of Junior year, and by the time first period started I was so frazzled from a missed alarm that I didn't even notice you at first. Looking back now, I'm not sure how you could be overlooked at all.
As I hastily sat, beating the bell by mere seconds, I knocked my pencil off my desk while reaching for my folder. At that point, I was so done with the day that I honestly considered just leaving it there, but then suddenly I looked up and you were holding it out to me with a blank expression on your face. Your hair was the darkest I've ever seen, black as a moonless night. It perfectly framed your tanned face and it felt as though it was love at first sight.
"Don't be so clumsy next time," You glared at me before turning away.
Or maybe not.
Thanks to you, I couldn't concentrate for the rest of the day, but it didn't seem like you remembered the clumsy girl in your first period.
Imagine my surprise when I found you by my locker after school. You were scanning the hall and I thought it was a coincidence until your eyes landed on me. A small smile lit up your face and then suddenly you were walking towards me, and I got so scared that I halted in the middle of the hallway.
Of course, everyone else continued their stampeding, so I got shoved forward. You caught my shoulders to steady me but by then my cheeks were so red I was considering moving to Australia and changing my name to Francine.
"Sorry," I mumbled, backing away.
You just shrugged and peered at me curiously. I noticed then how blue your eyes were, so blue they were almost gray. They were such a sharp contrast to your tanned face that I gasped softly.
Your brow furrowed. "Do I have something on my face?" Your confusion was the most adorable thing I've ever seen.
"N-no," I stuttered. "I just...your eyes," I finished lamely.
A smug smirk crept over your face then. "My eyes?"
I nodded timidly, my blush growing, which seemed to amuse you even more.
When it became clear to you that I wasn't going to say anything more, you cleared your throat and rocked back on your heels. "I never got your name,"
"Oh, um, it's Braelynn,"
You cocked your head to one side. "Lynn. I like it. I'm Kai,"
Thinking you hadn't heard me right, I shook my head and said, "No. Braelynn."
You just winked at me and replied, "I know," before turning to walk away. After a few steps, however, you stopped and looked at me over your shoulder, winking and saying, "By the way, you're cute when you blush," That, of course, just caused me to blush even harder, and you chuckled before leaving.
Needless to say, I didn't sleep that night.
Sincerely,
Braelynn
