They say dreams start 'in medias res'. In the middle of things.

If so, I must be dreaming. Dreaming that a girl is on top of me. And that we're on the ground.

Now, now, now; don't get the wrong impression. Don't mistake me for a hentai. Yup. Definitely not hentai.

"Get out of here, now!"

A voice, hysterically angelic, garbled in my ear. That was when I realized that a ringing, as if the TV had just turned on, had been buzzing by my ear. As I tried to lift my head, I slammed back, groaning. Ouch.

This is a dream. What else could this be?

If I remember correctly, my usual dreams usually don't feature headaches, but now I feel as if beetles were crawling and scraping the insides of my skull. I scanned the surroundings, mind still in a mess. I could hear dart-like whizzing sounds, together with loud deafening explosions and... roars? Thunder, perhaps. Rain showered in pitchers, and I had a vague impression of gray, swirling clouds, tall, swaying trees, flying bits of stone and dirt, and black, ruffled curly hair.

This might be Armageddon for all I care, but all I can think about now is how her hair smelled of a certain pink shampoo brand that I find so attractive, sweet, and fragrant, despite the rain.

"What's happening?" I asked, dumbly.

"Umm... You happened to pass by while some people kinda want to kill me..." She said, her voice much clearer now. The ringing seemed to have gone, replaced by that orchestra.

"What? What do you mean?" I asked again. I seem to be going dumber as I speak. The beetles, perhaps?

"Not the time to talk, mister." She snapped, helping me up. So we got up, and ran. Behind us, explosions and that weird roaring something and the battle still raged on.

"Obviously, we are currently under attack, mister." She said in a hurry as we dodged whizzing, silent bullets and running madmen, turning away before I could have the chance to see her face.

"Wait. Why are we being chased by bullets?" I started to panic, may blood starting to rise and drown my brain. My lungs filled of their own accord, and I would have screamed the highest, girliest scream if I haven't remembered that this is a dream.

"None of your business, now. We should be more concerned of getting out of this mess alive."

She said, as we ran and ran and ran. "Quickly!"

And we ran and we ran and we ran.

After what seemed like six seasons, she stopped.

"Hey!" I gasped, never running this hard and long all my life. This is quite an exhausting dream, to be honest. "Umm... Aren't we supposed to be 'more concerned of getting out of this mess alive' "? I mimicked her.

"Yup. We're getting out of this mess alive." She said. "Just trust me, all right?""Are you mad?" I blurted forcefully, not believing this girl. "Trust you? When you brought me to this mess? Why should I trust--?"

I stopped speaking as my eyes met hers. I can't believe I'm saying this, but the world slowed like, yeah. Like a slow motion scene from a movie. I could almost see the bullets walking past us, the explosions sounding like a slow breeze.

They said that the eyes are the windows of the soul. Her eyes, however, are great black gates.

"Because," the beautiful disarray in front of me spoke, "you are not dreaming, mister, and I'm your only chance of surviving this 'dream' of yours."

Then, a very deafening roar snapped me out of my hypnosis.

Yup. I am not dreaming.
