Chapter Twenty-Three

“Out of who? Enide and Cassidy?”

“And Huey.” Rain added.

“Not like that.” Darian declared. “Enide hates me and I’m not the right guy for Cassidy. She needs some hard core biker. I prefer my safe car; it’s not as easy to flip and hit my head on the ground.”

“Just saying. You should move on before you are in too deep. History isn’t supposed to repeat itself. What happened with Piper doesn’t have to happen again.”

“Why are you telling me this Rain?” Darian growled.

“Because you are my friend Darian and I don’t want to see you in that much pain again. Besides, you can find someone outside the Warren like Lynette.”

Darian clenched his fists. “The Warren won’t change their rules for me like they did for Keegan. I will be sent to death for treason. The only reason it didn’t happen this time was because I’m still a ‘child’ in their eyes.”

“They would have too.”

“Rain, let’s face facts. You no longer see anything in my future because I don’t have one. I may not have a death warning any more but nothing happens in my future. I’ll see at school on Monday.” He followed in Maria’s footsteps and slammed the door shut when he left.

“Darian! Where are you going?” Rain and I both yelled.

“What day is it?” I then asked Rain.

“I don’t know. At least Sunday but I bet it’s closer to the middle of the week.”

“We missed school!”

“It’s okay. They will just say when are in the hospital for a concussion or something weird.”

The one in charge of the bay came in to check on us. Rain asked her what day it was. We found out that today was Wednesday. I wonder if Darian meant Rain and I won’t be going back to school till Monday or if he won’t be.

Keegan woke up after she left. I didn’t think it was possible but Keegan’s smile was bigger than Darian’s. “You’re finally up.” He turned his head. “Rain too. I was wondering how long you guys would sleep.”

“Four days.” I answered him smartly.

“You’re funny. Where did Maria and that dummy go?”

“Rain pissed both of them off and they stormed out.” I informed Keegan.

Keegan directed his attention to Rain. “I’m sorry about Maria, but high five for pissing Darian off!” Keegan raised his hand and Rain hit it.

“Keegan!” I yelled.

“What?”

I shook my head. “He’s still my friend and that wasn’t very nice of you. I am glad to see you’re doing okay though.”

He smirked at me. “I’m always well enough to pick on Darian.” He changed the subject and his tone, “How are you though? You let Maria use a lot of your energy for me…”

“I think I would do almost anything for you.”

“Almost?” Keegan said as if he was offended.

I laughed. “I don’t think I would kill someone for you. I would tell you to find another hit man.”

“Alright. I will settle for almost.”

I teased, “Good, because that is all you are getting.” Even Rain laughed but I think that was more at us than with us.

Rain, Keegan, and I caused mayhem in the sick bay for the rest of the week. Or as much mayhem as you can cause. We would throw things across the room at each other. Rain would hassle the nurse when she checked on us. It was all quite fun.

No one really visited us. Cassidy and Huey each came in once and by Friday Maria had come back. I didn’t think she would stay mad at him for long. She would sit next to Rain and every so often slip in a comment about how she was still angry that he would do such a thing.

Darian had apparently gone missing. The Warren wasn’t really concerned about it though. Darian wonders off a lot apparently. They figured he would be back at school the following week and didn’t bother to go look for him.

They eventually released us from the sick bay on Sunday evening. Before they did though, they did a lot of tests to make sure the poison was actually out of Keegan’s system.

We were going to the longue when I said, “It feels good to actually get up and walk.”

Rain nodded and Keegan replied, “Yes, it does. That’s entirely why we are going to go to the longue and sit some more.”

Rain and I laughed but we just walked to the main longue with Maria. Our other friends were there and we gave them hugs but Enide, Jamie, and Thom, as usual, left soon after that. Darian wasn’t there. Huey was as drunk as a skunk. Cassidy was apparently on a ride. Finally, Ace and Piper decided we weren’t as much fun as it was to make out in the corner. The four of us just turned around and left.
