Islam On Music

So I was listening to Jay Z in class today, since my teacher turned it on. And that brought me to this. Do Muslims listen to music? Are we allowed?

Now this is literally such a controversial topic.

So, it doesn't say if we can or cannot. Some scholars have said yes, and some have said no.

Some Muslims don't listen to music because they don't want to take the risk. And some do because they say it isn't stated anywhere. And by anywhere I mean the Quran or Sunnah.

(A Quran (Kor 'on) is our holy book. Like the Bible, or Torah.

Sunnah, (Sun' ah)  is basically what our Prophet Muhammad S.A.W. said, did, or approved of.
For example, Jesus was a prophet. )

Some scholars say if you do listen to music, make sure it isn't speaking about the devil. Or drugs, basically any sinful things.
