I deadpanned at her thinking she couldn't be serious. I was getting annoyed and I was going to be late if this continued for much longer. "Alexis" I said emphasizing her name "We are no longer friends I don't have to give a shit about you. You ARE one of the worst ones that mess with me and now you ask, no not ask, demand my help?" I looked at her as if she were insane and turn to walk out of the room. She starts to scream at me that I will regret this but I ignore it and put in my head phones running down the steps and out of the school gates my bag hiked high up on my back. All the way home I sing along under my breath to Watch Me by Icon for Hire.
I am not afraid to fall
You can watch me lose it all
I'll get it wrong, 'til I get it right
At least I'm making scenes in the meantime
Watch me, watch me
No time left to play it safe, no time to bend
The worst mistake you'll ever make is trying to blend
Are you scared you might open your mouth
And feel the horror if nothing comes out?
Do you think you're safe, frozen in place?
Run for cover just in case
I am not afraid to fall
You can watch me lose it all
I'll get it wrong, 'til I get it right
At least I'm making scenes in the meantime
Watch me
Watch me get it get it wrong at the top of my lungs
While you front for every one, while you tip toe for fun
I can scream until your ears bleed, you're gonna never hear me
You hear what you want, but you never wanted me.
As I finish up the last few lines of the song my house comes into view. My house wasn't that far from the school maybe only a couple of blocks and my dad had always told me that I should try out for track with how fast and far that I could run... but that would require having to deal with the damn jocks... I think I'll pass on that one.
There was a car outside in the driveway that I had never seen before. Cautiously I walk up to the car it was a nice car, a sleek black finish with shiny chrome detailing. When I got close enough I almost choked on air this was a Cadillac CTS these things cost not only an arm and a leg but the soul of your grandmother too! It was a freaking expensive car, so what the hell was it doing here? It looked so out of place in the average suburban neighborhood that I called my home. My family wasn't poor, we lived a comfortable life in a two story house with a large front porch and a two car garage. Nothing too extravagant of over the top, it had a simplicity to it that made it feel like it was warm and cozy.
Shaking off the shock from the car I walk into the house, and called out "Dad, I'm home" walking towards the kitchen still thinking about the car outside I yanked open the refrigerator and got out a bottle of apple juice. I had just put the bottle to my lips when I froze. I probably looked very weird frozen mid step with a bottle pressed to my face and my eyes the size of saucers but I couldn't really bring myself to care because there standing in the archway to my kitchen was the second most bane of my existence. Ryder Connolly.
Ryder was attractive with his light brown hair that looked like a halo of the richest gold when the sunlight hit it just right, paired with the richest forest green eyes, yeah he was attractive I wasn't going to deny it. Girls would swoon just with a sideways glance from him and when he took off his shirt for football practice I was embarrassed for him with how all of the girls would eye rape the fuck out of him. His tone arms, lean build, and sculpted legs were what wet dreams were made of. All that being said he was a prick. When ever he would open his mouth all that would fall out was pure sarcasm and asshole-ness or maybe that was just saved for me. The guy had single handedly succeeded in getting the whole school population to call me freak instead of my name when he started dating one of the other Ashley's; saying that he not even in name wanted to be associated with me. Damn prick.
I slowly set down my apple juice and got out of my awkward frozen position and turned to face Ryder fully. "Why the fuck are you here?" I asked with surprisingly no malice in my voice just curiosity.
"So the Freak can curse too? I thought that you would be too goody-goody for that." Ryder's deep voice reverberated through the kitchen making me gulp slightly to get rid of the tightness in my chest. Man that was a sexy sound.
Physically waving my hand in the air making it look like I was dismissing his comment but really I was waving away pesky images from entering my mind of what his voice would sound like when he would moan. Stupid hormones. Man I complain a lot. "I'm at home I don't have to give a shit about teachers riding my ass." I stated like it was the most obvious thing in the world, which it was. "Now back to my question; what the fuck are you doing here?" I ask raising my eyebrow and picking my apple juice back up and taking a sip.
He thought for a minute before saying "I don't really know mom just told me not to take my car today, and that she would pick me up. She said that she had wanted to tell me something." moving to the the island he took a seat in front of me before continuing. "When she came to get me she brought me here."
I sighed and set my juice down again "Well I think I understand whats going on here." I looked at him and scratched the back of my neck "You are not going to like this" I mumbled and pursed my lips.
Before Ryder could question my suspicions were confirmed when my dad walked in with a very pretty woman on his arm. The first thing that I had noticed about her were her eyes, she had the softest baby blue eyes that I had ever just shining with kindness and love as she looked up at my dad. Taking in the rest of her face she had the same light brown golden like hair that Ryder had, it framed her face well and fell in ringlets down to her mid back. She had a slightly crooked nose and a beautiful smile with white pearls for teeth. She was dressed in a simple tight black business dress that wasn't too tight and went down to her knees, it looked very classy on her. Overall she was stunning, beautiful, every synonym of the word.
"Oh good James dear you've met Brian's daughter." the woman I'm guessing was Ryder's mom said with a smile.
I send a smirk over towards Ryder who isn't paying me any attention but pales slightly "Bryan? As in your boyfriend Bryan?" he asked shocked.
Not pleased that I had been left out of the loop I frowned and raised an eyebrow at my dad. Who scratched the back of his neck awkwardly. "Wait! What! So the outrageous, hilarious, trickster daughter that you had was her?" he said in disbelief.
I clear my throat making my presence known. My dad and Ryder's look over at me, my dad with worry and his girlfriend with curiosity. "Hello," I stumble for a moment trying to find the right lie to use "I'm sorry I am terrible with name if they don't have a face to them, even if my dad has mentioned your name just over a thousand times he hasn't shut up about you really." I managed sending her a charming smile I swear I could make a killing in Hollywood.
My dad sighed in relief but made it sound like it was out of frustration. "Ashley" he said looking down at the woman beside him "this is my Robbin." the smile and love that spread across both of their faces even had me smiling. I could have awww'ed right then and there.
Ryder started to cough uncomfortably, snapping our parents attention back to us before they could do anything that make us want to gouge our eyes out with rusty spoons. "Right" Robbin said clearing her throat coming out of her daze "we have an announcement to make" the smile never leaving her face.
I sigh knowing what was coming I had just wished my dad had given me a little bit of a heads up on it. My dad smiled just as big as Robbin and said "We're getting married"
