"i didn't know that i was starving till i tasted you"
-hailee steinfield, starving

t e a

brown sugar melts into my milk
saccharine relief from surrendering
the swirling shades of autumn like
your circling fingers on my thigh

cocoa beans smell safe
like comfort and home and known
they smell nothing like you, you who smells like danger and being free

caffeine tastes like regret; bitter
you taste like midnight air so drunk
you taste like satin on my tongue
and this, you and me, is everything except regret

milk is white and pure and true
we are light and high on this night
i am drowning in an ocean of pale
you are rescuing me with each sip

i spent my time spitting out
liquid that wasn't sweeter than him
but you've helped me acquire a taste for coffee- suddenly, i'm wide awake
there's a cup on my bed
darker than this late night
keeping me warm in this storm
as the coffee touches my tongue
it hits me that nothing's ever tasted better

he was tea and you are coffee.
