In this story the following terminology will be used:

Butler - In charge of all staff, makes sure everything runs smoothly. Also serves the guests on occasion.

Valet - Serve as personal attendants to their employer.

Lady's Maid - A lady's maid is a female personal attendant who waits on the lady of the house.

Footman - Lays the table for meals and serves the family breakfast either on trays in the different rooms or in the breakfast or dining room, and attends the door during the morning.

Housemaid - A female employed in cleaning service. They will also assist the Cook.

Cook - Plans meals for the family and any guests who may be visiting.

Hallboys/ Scullery Maids - A boy/girl of low rank tasked with the less desirable tasks such as emptying chamber pots and polishing shoes.

(This is based on Downton Abbey so like it'll be written in period typical vocabulary which is the 1920s. There will be homophobia in this story as it would be typical of this time period. I'm not an expert on the way things worked in this era so please excuse any inaccuracies)

Here is the definitions of slang used in this story:

Cake-eater - homosexual

Dewdropper -  A person who does nothing all day

Gasper - Cigarette

Half-seas over - Drunk

Jake - Used intead of okay and fine "Everything's jake."

Oliver Twist - An extremely good dancer

Upstage - Arrogant or snobby
