I wake up on Friday, the end of the first week of the of the fourth quarter of school. I'm so close to the end now. And I can't wait to get out. I applied to college in Albany, my old city. I should hear back from them soon. I loved it there. After I get dressed, I go out into the living room and grab my car keys. My dad gave me his old Impala because he doesn't use it anymore. I don't think I would have a car if he hadn't given it to me.

I pass by Arabella, who is sitting in her chair, painting her nails a glittery hot pink and glancing up at the news often enough to yell her opinion out. I honestly wish she would just shut up. Luckily, she's too wrapped up in it to stop to yell at me for once.  I sigh in relief. My dad is at the kitchen table, and I wave goodbye to him before I walk out the door and to the car.

Before I start up the sidewalk towards the school's doors, I make sure the Impala is locked. I'm not making the mistake of not locking it again. Let's just say I forgot one time, and I got very surprised when I opened the door after school that day. I push through the door and head towards the library. It's my favorite place in the school. No one goes there except for people coming from class to do research or find a book. I sink into a chair and pull out my book while I wait for school to start.

"Is this where you hide every day?"

'Dammit' I think. I close my eyes and take a deep breath. Of course she'd show up today. It was a matter of time before she found out anyway.

I glance up at Sophia and Rose, then look back down at my book. Sophia slams her hand down on the table.

"Don't ignore me, you little bitch!"

I sigh. "What do you want?"

She grins. "I wanted to ask how your mom is doing." I freeze. My eyes are starting to fill with tears. How did she find out?! I tried so hard to keep her away from this! I haven't told anyone here!!

"Oh! Sorry, I forgot." Sophia says, tilting her head to the side and giving a fake little pout.

"Mommy didnt want you, did she? I'm so sowwy."

I stand up, my face tilted towards the ground, my hair hiding my tears. I ask her just one question.

        "Why?"

She stops for a second, and the laughs.

"You just make it so easy." She turns to walk away. "Tell Arabella I say hi!"

I stiffen "...H-how?'

Sophia gives a little giggle. "Well, I was out shopping, and Arabella and I happened to be buying the same color of nail polish, so we started to talk. She and I have a lot in common. We talked for a bit, and then she bought me a coffee. She ended up venting to me about her family. How her husband was a good man, but he always acts distant. How she thinks that's your fault. How much of an absolute failure you are. How much she wishes you didn't even exist. Oh!" She hesitates for a second, watching my eyes fill with tears again. "I probably wasn't supposed to say that one. It must hurt to know that even your new mom doesn't want you either." She smirks.

I begin to shake, my emotions threatening to take over completely.

"She is not my mother." I say, but my voice breaks. I glance to the side and see that Rose has pulled out her phone to record my reaction.

Of all days, it just had to be today. I had been at school for twenty minutes and all I wanted to do was die. They don't usually get a reaction from me on the outside, and now they finally have a way to get to me. I managed to take a step forward, my knees shaking. I take a second to try to stop shaking, but it doesn't work. Sophia and Rose laugh quietly.

"Loser." whispers Rose. It pushes me forward. I walk towards the door, closing the book in my hand and slinging my backpack over my shoulder. Manage to hold myself together until I'm out of their sight. And then I run.
