The girl sat upon the rooftop, the city beneath her recovering from a bloodbath of killings in the dark of the night. The moonlight shone down on her pale complexion as she stared out across the place she once called her home.
Things were different now.
She wasn’t the same girl anymore and she had everything to hide. She could see the blur of movement down below as her mess was getting cleaned.
She knew she should go and help, but she couldn’t. She hadn’t won this battle at all, but instead, they had won her.
There was movement behind her and instantly, she knew who it would be who would come looking for her. His hand gently touched her shoulder, both equally as icy after their ordeal together. Still, she didn’t move. She sat there, frozen, reflecting on what had happened and wondering about what was to come.
“We have to leave before the police arrive. You can remain here no longer.” The voice was low, calm and even apologetic.
The girl shook her head, but after a few thoughtful moments, pushed herself up onto her weary legs and followed him to the edge of the rooftop, glancing down before she jumped, plummeting to the city streets below….
