Gone

Marco breathed lightly and blinked. He fell to his knees in the doorway of the empty, lifeless guest bedroom. It hadn't always been lifeless, in fact a matter of seconds ago it was colorful and active. Now... now it was just normal. He watched it disappear before his eyes. It wasn't just furniture that vanished, but memories, moments, feelings, emotions, friendships, heartbreaks, confusion, chaos, order, surprises, it all left with the room. So much had happened there, and in as little as less then a school year. Gone. He swallowed, "Star?" He quietly said to the walls for the second time. His eyes became covered with a thin film of tears. The last time he cried was awhile ago, but he didn't care. He didn't try and stop it. Last time he had cried was when Star left, but then there was still hope, a thought in the back of the mind, that she'd come back... and she did. This was different now. She was gone.
"Marco?" A voice came softly from behind him.
He turned around, "Jackie!" He said out of shock and he pulled himself up as he blinked away the tears.
"Dude, are you alright? What just happened?" She scratched the back of her neck. "That was... uh..." She trailed off. Marco wasn't fully listening anyway, he went back to staring at the room. What did just happened? He rethought that last five minutes out carefully. He just lost his best friend. Sure, their last few moments together where awkward, uncomfortable, and highly confusing, but they were still best friends. She wouldn't have left like that unless she had too, unless something was wrong. He needed to find her. He needed to make things right.
Like lightning, he spun around, ran past a startled Jackie, and stumbled into his room. "Woah, Marco?" Jackie, with caution, followed behind him. He was slamming draws opened and closed, rummaging through stacks of stuff, and frantically looking around.
"Yes! Found them!" He held up a large pair of golden scissors. He turned them in the moonlight from the window. His name, embedded in them, was what caught the light. He was about to dart out of the room, but Jackie stopped him by the shoulders.
"Woah, woah, Marco. Calm down. I still have no idea what just happened or what is going on, but you need to stop. I don't know what you are planning on doing with... those..." she glanced at the big, sharp blades, "but you need to stop and think. Are you sure this is a safe or smart plan? Do you even know what you're doing?"
Marco looked at his tool... was this a good idea? Yes. It was the only idea he was going to accept... even though it wasn't really planned out, he had to try. "Jackie," he looked her in the eyes, "I don't know what is going happen, where I'm going, or what I'm doing..."
Jackie smiled softly, "Dude,"
"D... don't try and stop me, Jackie. I have to do this."
"Dude."
"It's the right thing to do. I have to find her."
"Dude! Chill. I don't know either, but whatever is going on, I know you can do it. I'm not gonna stop you."
"You're... not?"
"Not a chance, man. I have faith in you." She punched his arm. "So... go do whatever it is you're doing."
"Finding Star?"
"Yeah. Go do that!" Jackie gently kissed his cheek and took a few steps back. Marco took a deep breath and stabbed the scissors into the air. He dragged them down, causing a rip, a portal, to fill the space. He looked back at Jackie and smiled. What she did made him blush but it didn't have the same feeling as usual. He didn't feel through the roof. Maybe it was because he felt guilty. Maybe it was because of what the last ten minutes held. Maybe it was because he had a bigger objective, and that's all that was important to him. He gulped at the portal, was this actually a wise idea? No, it probably wasn't, but he had to do it. He didn't even know where she was. She might've gone somewhere besides Mewnie. Even if she was there, she could be in hiding or undercover as a complete stranger. He didn't know, but he had to try. He wouldn't be able to live with himself if he didn't. Jackie gave him a little thumbs up and he nodded. He took a step through the portal.
"I'm coming, Star."
