Her Love of Flame

The fire in my hands crackles and burns in delight. It is oblivious to its danger in this vulnerable world. Colors of red, orange, and blue dance in the night. I sigh at the anger and stress that is released from me as it burns. It is a way of escape to my happy place in this lonesome world of hate. A soppy wet tongue licks my cheek. Pako, my 180 pound St Bernard, is standing over me with loving eyes. My shy smile meets my eyes within seconds. Pako peers down at the flame in the palm of my hand.
"Pako, don't you dare...."
He tentatively licks my hand and the flame is extinguished. I give him a pout of frustration as I look where the fire had been. He knows how much I love the fires I make, and he only extinguishes them to be a pain in the butt.
The chains around my wrist rattle as I struggle to smack Pako upside the head for his antics.
"Get over here you!!" I laugh softly.
A guard shushes me harshly with a glare. His eyebrows knit tightly together and a scowl replaces his normal look of boredom. My lips part slowly to apologize, but his baton smacks the bars with a force so strong that they let out a resounding ring. There is a short silence left after that makes me squirm. Pako lets out a guttural snarl that starts from deep within him and slowly rises towards his foaming lips.
"Jesus Christ. Calm down mutt. And your dog too..." he gives a hearty laugh at his stupid joke.
I roll my eyes and look over to see Pako's reaction to this.
Pako snaps his teeth at the bars and they start to bend under his force. I can hear his heart pounding in anger from the corner of my cell.
"Hey hey hey!!!" The guard starts to panic.
He jumps up from his chair and smacks his head on the low roof.
"Damn it" he struggles over to cell 203, clutching his bleeding head.
The guard takes out his baton once more and repeatedly smacks it down over Pako's head.
My dog looks at the guard in confusion . Pako snatches the baton out of his hand with ease, and carries it happily back to me. The guard is left sputtering at us and I smirk with confidence.
"How's the first day on the job?" I laugh as Pako slowly falls asleep in my lap.
