Emily's POV

My dad opened the door, the smile on his face fading. "You're late." He stated. I sighed, clenching my teeth. This will be a long night.
"I know dad. Sorry about that, Bri's babysitter was late." I answered, squeezing my fists tight.
"You didn't bring my granddaughter?" He scoffed. "Dinners almost ready." He added, walking into the living room.
"You know what, maybe we should go." I suggested, turning around.
"No." Hunter said, pushing me inside. "It's your father." He guided me to the living room, where Richelle, Riley, Alfie, and my father were all seated.
"Hi Em." Riley smiled at me.
"Hey." Alfie said as well. Richelle just waved and mumbled a 'hi', her eyes glued to her phone.
"Richelle look up! That's rude!" My dad snapped, Richelle rolling her eyes, but putting away her phone.
"Howard calm down." I heard my step-mother, Mary, say, before she appeared from within the kitchen. "Dinner." She added, smiling. Everyone stood, walking to the dining room. We all sat, getting our food before beginning to eat. It was rather silent as we all sat eating, dad was kind of a downer. In fact, it wasn't until we were all eating cake that someone started up a conversation.
"How's Bri?" Mary asked, looking over to me.
"She's good, excited for her birthday next month." I smiled, swallowing another forkful of cake.
"Speaking of kids, Riley and I actually have an announcement." Alfie started, putting his fork down. I heard a clatter, and saw that Riley had dropped her fork, and was now looking at her fiancée through wide eyes.
"Riley this is expensive China, be more careful." Dad grunted, not looking up from his plate.
"Howard. Let them finish." Mary sighed, before looking over at Riley with a smile.
"I don't think this is a good idea." Riley said to Alfie, sounding very unsure.
"What's wrong? I'm sure they'll be excited for us." He replied. I put my hand to my forehead. This isn't good. "Riley and I are expecting." Alfie announced proudly. My father froze, swallowing, before placing his fork down gently and looking up, his eyes like daggers.
"Congratulations!" Mary smiled, but I didn't pay much attention to it. I was more interested in dad.
"Congratulations? Mary! My daughter is pregnant! She's just as bad as my first!" Dad exclaimed, Mary turning her attention to him, obviously not pleased with his attitude.
"Hey, a little offence taken there." I said, looking over at him. I turned my attention back to Riley, who was looking down at her hands. She was shaking slightly, and I saw a drop of water fall onto her lap.

Riley's POV

I'm worse than Emily. I had an affair, and got pregnant from it. And the worst part is Alfie doesn't know yet. I wanted to tell him, but I can't. I just couldn't get myself to hurt him that bad. The whole reason I had the affair was because I realized I didn't like him as much as I thought I did, and I love James, but Alfie's still a great guy. I don't want to let him down. A few tears escaped my eyes, hitting the fabric of my dress as everyone argued around me. I didn't listen, I paid no attention to anymore of it. I inhaled deeply, and managed to wipe away my tears without anyone noticing, before lifting my head. "You know what." I said, causing silence to fall as everyone looked at me. "We need to get going. Happy birthday dad." I nodded, standing up and walking to the door. I heard my dad grunt in response, as Alfie followed. I put on my coat and shoes, grabbed my purse, and headed out to the car to drive home.
