Chapter 1: Secrecy Comes With A Price

(Tepiokami's P.O.V)

(Walking Kuniko Home From School)

"Tepi!"

"Hey Tepi!"

"Hello! Earth to Tepiokami!"

I blinked a few times as Kuniko's voice snapped me out of my thoughts.

"Huh?"

I was off in my own world, lost in my own thoughts, when I came to, I saw my friend Kuniko shaking me roughly by the shoulders with an irritated expression on her face... I tried to remember what it was was thinking about but... my mind was totally blank...

"Uh, I'm sorry I wasn't listening..."

"Gah! Tep, you're never listening to anything I say these days! What was it that you were thinking about anyways?" She complained.

My eyes widened, I didn't really know how to reply to that...

"U-Uh... I can't really remember..."

Kuniko looked at me with a disappointed expression on her face, she sighed at me discouraged.

"Why must you always zone out on me when I'm trying to say something important?" Kuniko complained.

I shrugged...

"Sorry, I can't help it..."

Kuniko grabbed me roughly by the head and made me look at her.

"Pay attention to me this time!"

"Yeah yeah okay." I said

She released my head.

"Tomorrow morning at about ten o'clock I want to go get a dog, but I want to take Dante with me, I want Dante to like the dog because I want them to hang out whenever we hang out... Dante is a therapy/police dog right? So he can go anywhere!" She explained.

"Well... I originally trained him as a therapy dog, but then James needed another German shepherd for some police business so some trainers trained him to be an obedient police dog, he is still a certified therapy dog so I can take him anywhere, yeah."

"That's extremely rare... he's a smart dog!" She exclaimed.

"Yeah and a good friend."

"Yeah, I know, I wish I could take you with us... but... if my father sees you-"

"I know..." I interrupted her. "I'll be killed."

We continued walking down the road in complete silence, both of us off in our own world, lost in our own thoughts... I continued walking and didn't even notice that Kuniko stopped walking...

"Hey, Tep!"

I paused and lifted my head in an alert state, I looked over my shoulder to see Kuniko standing still staring at me...

"Geez you need to pay more attention to your surroundings." She said with a snarky tone.

"Sorry... I'll uh, see you tomorrow..."

"Alright... see ya." She said while waving.

I smiled slightly.

"See ya."

I started walking down the long and lonely road...

"And Tep..."

I paused as she caught my attention, listening to what she had to say...

"Be careful out there... this place is dangerous for you..." She warned with a glare.

My eyes widened... I glanced over my shoulder towards her, she was glaring at me... I felt my heart skip a beat as her glare pierced through my soul, I could tell that she knew something bad was coming ...and normally she's right about these things...
