gravel crunched under my shoes as we split up, finding our stupid "chaperones".

"dan, you go this way." some adult pointed me in a direction behind her.

i offered a slight nod and watched my feet make their way past her.

trees twisted up to the sky, reaching for the grey clouds. the whole sky was an ugly grey, but i loved it. bushes lined a bumpy trail, weeds poking up from the dirt. it definitely wasnt an aesthetic photo, but i actually really liked it. im not a flowery, bright person.

i was wearing a big black jumper with rustic grey stripes layed horizontally across it. black skinny jeans wrapped around my legs and i wore black zippered shoes.

i pulled my sleeves over my cool hands and quickly fixed my fringe as a man jogged up to me. i had slowed my pace by then, and he approached me swiftly.

"are you dan?" he panted. he bent over a little, he clearly wasnt used to running at all, although he was slim.

i nodded and asked "are you my chaperone? youre horribly late, im telling!"

his eyes widened and he took a step toward me. "i didnt mean to be, please dont!" he assured me.

"im fucking joking, i wont tell on you. why do we even need you guys?"

placing his hands on his hips, he looked at the ground. "dont swear, youre too young. ill tell on you." he looked up and suggestively raised an eyebrow.

i laughed aloud at this. i shorten the distance between us, so we were only a few feet apart.

"im eighteen. ive been swearing since i was 10." shaking my head, i added, "so whats your name, goody-two-shoes?"

now it was his turn to roll his eyes.

"phil, my name is phil."
