The Echo of Light footsteps could be heard approaching the door, the doves chirping happily away on the swaying branches of the old willow tree, and the children playing road hockey in the streets while the cars drive by dangerously close.

A young girl was sitting alone on the front porch of an old house, listening to the sounds, and enjoying the warm feeling of the sun beating against her skin.

The girl felt a light tap on her shoulder but did not turn to face the person. She only replied while still directing her attention to the scenery in front of her.

"Yes? Who is it?" The girl asked.

"It's Ella, mom wants you to come inside, she said it's going to rain soon," Ella replied.

Ella has an exciting voice that, if given the chance, could get as loud and rambunctious as a gaggle of howling monkeys playing with squeaky toys.

"Alright, just give me a few more minutes." The girl said.

As Ella retreated back into the rickety old home the girl sensed the rain that was approaching. She could hear the wind picking up which, in turn, was blowing the leaves around and making goosebumps appear on the skin of her exposed legs and arms. She could smell the aroma the air always had before it rains, and the light sprinkling sound of the rain starting to fall on the houses and ground was intoxicating to her.

Once the rain started to come down faster and more intensely she quickly stood up and went inside the house to hide from the lightning and winds of the storm that had started only moments ago.

The girl entered the dining room and was greeted by the sound of humming and cutlery being placed down on the hardwood table.

She assumed it was her adoptive mother Karen setting the table for supper with Ella helping with the drinks like the two always did every evening.

Karen has a caring voice that can defuse any tense situation, like a soft morning breeze drifting through a field.

"Oh, hello darling it's nice to see you this evening how was the weather today?" Karren inquired.

"It was alright, even if it rained, it was still very relaxing." The girl replied to the question.

"Very good, well supper is served so you can sit down and start to eat," Karen said

"What are we having tonight?" The girl inquired.

"Tonight we are having steak with peas, mashed potatoes, and gravy. To drink, you have orange juice, you're favorite." Karen Replied calmly.

The girl grabbed the back of the chair and sat down at the end of the table without another word. She found her fork and knife and waited until the others had been seated.

Once she was sure that everyone was seated, she started to eat. The table was silent, all you could hear is the sound of Ella chewing with her mouth open, the occasional sip of a drink and sound of the cutlery hitting each other.

Once supper was finished everyone picked up their plates and put them in the sink to be washed, Except for the girl, she sat at the table staring straight ahead, unblinking, while the rest of the family put things away and did their chores for the evening.

Soon enough Karen came and took the girls plate and put it in the sink to be washed. a few minutes later the girl stood up and left the dining room and went back to the front porch, where the storm has gotten much more powerful.

Now, the recently mellow storm has turned into a thundering and strong one. The wind was blowing wildly, throwing objects around like leaves, paper, and the occasional umbrella with their owner yelling and chasing after it. The rain was so heavy and loud when it hit the trees the leaves would either instantly move aside or be harshly ripped off of the branch with no regard for the tree at all. The thunder was loud and directly after lightning and would scare you to death if you didn't know it was coming.

The girl was listening to all of these sounds with interest, it was beautiful, but the girl could not enjoy all of the of the storm. This girl is different.

This girl is blind.

She can not experience the things that a normal person can do like watch TV, write, or see the beauty of the world. All she can do is listen to people tell stories to her and try to imagine what it would look like, but that's quite hard when she has been blind for her entire life so imagining things that she has never seen is as hard as you would imagine it to be.

The girl wishes as much as possible to be able to see but, her wishing is in vain yet she still believes even though she knows it won't help...
