Chapter One

It was very hot in the summer. And the most hot thing about the summer was Brandon. When he walked around in his shorts, it was everything. He was everything. He was Mr. Perfect. But soon I had to leave Mr. Perfect and fly from California to Tennessee. I told my parents I didn't want to live on a farm. I wanted to stay in California with all of my friends and Brandon. We would leave in a few weeks and I didn't have much time so my goal for the next week is to get to talk to him. Just thinking about him sent chills through my body. Everyday around 3pm he rode by my house. It was 2:59 and 10 seconds away from 3:00. In 10...9...8...7...6...5...4...3...2...1... It was 3pm. He wasn't there. A few seconds later he came. I felt so relieved. He looked my way and did that cute smile of his...wait he just smiled at me...OMG HE SMILED AT ME. But maybe he was laughing at me. Was I sitting in a funny position? Was my bra strap visible? Whatever it was it wasn't anything weird because then he said

"Hey" and kept riding his bike. OMG HE SAID HI. I froze up and then just walked in my house with my face as red a tomato.

That night I couldn't sleep. I just kept on thinking about him. I kept imagining my face turning red and him being weirded out. Thoughts ran through my head. What if he never came by my house again? What if he moves schools because I'm too weird? I tried to focus on the happy things like maybe if I spoke to him more he would like me? Well I just wanted to focus on right now, and right now I want to go to sleep.

The next morning I thought about Brandon the entire time I was getting ready for school. That day I wore a camouflage crop top and high waisted shorts. The school aloud shorts because we lived in Los Angeles. Anyways I didn't have a car but I was sixteen. I don't why my mom wouldn't let me get a car. So I ride my skateboard to school. I ride it past Brandon's house everyday because that is the route I use to get to school. Today I felt lucky. Very unusually lucky. My morning went perfect and my pig faced little brother wasn't as bratty. Then as I rode past Brandon's house he walked outside as soon as he saw me. It was very unusual because he usually is at school before me. He stopped me and said "Hey Jane, Whats up?" I couldn't believe it, he talked. I responded with "Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...good?" I was so mad at myself. Why couldn't I think of something more clever like "Good how has your morning been so far." After an awkward 30 seconds of silence he said "Mind if I ride my skateboard with you?" and again I froze up and said "Y-Y-Yeah that would be great." So we rode our skateboards to school. We talked the entire morning. When we got to school we both had PE together. We were practicing our swings for baseball. I honestly think it's stupid. That is until Brandon came up to me and put his arms around me and showed me how to swing correctly. I finally got the hang of it and then I completely forgot about everyone and everything that was surrounding us because I looked into his eyes and we had a strong connection.
