God knows what is hiding in those weak and sunken lives

Fiery throngs of muted angels,

Giving love but getting nothing back, oh

People help the people

And if you're homesick

Give me your hand and I'll hold it

People help the people

And nothing will drag you down

Oh and if I had a brain

Oh and if I had a brain

I'd be cold as a stone and rich as a fool

That turned all those good hearts away

God knows what is hiding in this world of little consequence

Behind the tears, inside the lies

A thousand slowly dying sunsets

God knows what is hiding in those weak and drunken hearts

Guess the loneliness came knocking

No one needs to be alone, oh singing

People help the people

And if you're homesick

Give me your hand and I'll hold it

People help the people

And nothing will drag you down

Oh and if I had a brain

Oh and if I had a brain

I'd be cold as a stone and rich as a fool

That turned all those good hearts away

I finished the song and everyone was silent. I was walking back to my seat. Ms Carson started to applaud, bringing everyone out of their dazed stupor. Others started to applaud, though I doubt they knew what for.

"Well, Bethany, that was amazing." Ms. Carson exclaimed. "I think you need to prepare another performance for us."

I nodded, and then looked around the class. Some people looked quite impressed, some bored and some bitter. Kol was in the none of those sections of the class. He was just smirking at me and miming exaggerated applause. I spot him a glare.  Ms. Carson continued;

"But this time, you will not be doing it by yourself, you will be partnered with Kol."

My jaw dropped.

"But, Miss, You can't do-"

"Enough, Bethany. You will be with Kol and that is final. He is new to music and will need your support. Everyone else, find a partner that you would like to be with, I have decided that the whole class will do a second performance."

At this point, the bell rang and everyone left class. Kol looked like he was about to talk to me, so I sped out into the corridor to my locker. I got all the books I needed for my homework, and then closed my locker. Sadly, Kol seemed to have found me and then positioned himself behind me. As I started walking away, he grabbed me from behind, making me jump and drop my bag.

"Sorry about that." He said, smirking.

"Please, don't sneak up on me again."

"Well, Beth, I kind of had to after you ditched me."

"Okay, lets get some things straight." I said, getting quite pissed off. "I am not your friend just because we are stuck doing a project together, and it's Bethany to you."

He chuckled.

"I like pretty little things with sharp tongues." He smirked. "We have to meet up sometime to work on this little project you know, how 'bout 7:30 at the grill tonight?"

"And how the hell are we meant to practice music there?"

"Well, we kinda need to think of a song to sing before we start with the instruments."

"Fine. At least there will be other people there, so if you're obnoxious behavior overwhelms me I can  talk to some more civilized company." I said with a smirk plastered across my face. "Here's my number. Text me when you are free so we can work on this horrid thing. I want to get it over with as soon as possible." I wrote my number on a piece of paper and gave it to him.

"Oh, don't you think that's a bit forward?" Oh, God. There was that infernal smirk again.

"Nope, I have two phones, one I use for friends, and the other, the number to which I gave you, I use for creeps who want my number." I turned and walked away, leaving Kol standing all alone in the corridor.
