To "fall in love" - whatever it means
I hadn't believed in the "love at first sight" before that one day. I thought it was only fiction, stuff for movies in Hollywood. That it could only be seen on screens in cinemas. That day changed my opinion completely. Although, I have to say, in this case it wasn't "love at first sight". It was a bit like "love at first fall". It sounds strange, doesn't it? And it also was.
My best friend Luce and me had gone since years to this little sidewalk cafe in Utica street before school. Luce was late, so I waited for her outside and drank my first coffee that day, which would be probably very long, because the Denver Eagles our school football team, would play against the Pueblo Heroes. While I was waiting, I observed the people on the other side of the street. There was a tired-looking business man in a smooth-ironed suite, a couple holding hands and a boy with an around-romping Golden Retriever. I took my eyes off of them and checked my phone for a new message from Luce. But no, no new messages. We had only thirty minutes to drive to school, to run through the school corridor to our lockers and to sprint to English lessons in time. It was so untypical for her to be late, that I really began to be worried. Still in my thoughts, I heard a strange noise and suddenly I laid on the cold and wet floor, a woolly-bustling something on me. I tried to take a deep breath, but it was difficult, because this something on me was heavy and the air in front of my nose smelt wet-dog like. At once, I understood what had happened. This rock of a dog had knocked me over and I had fallen on the street. Soon after that inspiration I got into panic. I felt the adrenaline pulsing through my veins and tried to get free, but it was impossible. I had problems with breathing and with every arduous breath it got more strenuous. A little late I noticed, that the boy was yelling at the dog. He was shouting something like "Really? Oh Hunt, come on! Bad dog! It's the third beautiful girl you have knocked over this week. And it's Tuesday today! Stop trumping around on her!" I thought, that he couldn't mean it seriously. Otherwise, it would mean, that he was flirting with me while his dog was trying to crush me alive. Just when I thought, whether it would be worth to scream for help, I felt the weight disappearing from my chest. I took a deep breath to fill my spent lungs with the damp city air, which suddenly didn't seem so bad. A hand appeared to help me up off the floor. I took it, but after I had let it go, I had to take her again because everything was spinning in my head. I soon realized that he was cute. Although, not only cute, but also very good-looking. Considerable tall, dark brown hair and ocean-blue eyes. "Are you okay?", he asked. Was he kidding?! His 74 pound dog had knocked me over and I don't know whether I had to cry, to shout at him or to run away. I felt sick and maybe I had a shock. At the same time Luce still hadn't arrived. So yes, it was a great day. "I have felt better", I answered, " I feel like ran over by a road roller". He smiled over my vain attempt to make a joke. Apparently, he was thinking that when I was in the state to make fail jokes my stand wasn't as bad as he might have thought. "You should take your dog on a lead", I reproached him and pointed at the sitting, almost smiling dog next to him. "Normally, he isn't as bad as it might seem for you now. He always follows my commend, he has never bitten somebody and he loves to play", he explained. "Yeah, I saw it. He follows your commends so much, that I am covered in bruises", I blamed." I am sorry for that. Here", he reached me a serviette, "For your hand. And your jacket". I hadn't realized that I was completely covered in my coffee. Damn! I took the serviette and tried futile to rescue my jacket. "I can't help you with your jacket, but maybe I could get you a new coffee?, he offered."As if I could stand out even more adrenaline this morning". I realized that I seemed to be a bit rude, so I added a smile. "I insist to that. Please, do me this favor". I looked at my watch. Fifteen minutes, until I had to drive to school. I had two options. The first was to wait here alone for Luce. And the second was to wait her for Luce with an awesome guy who would even spent me a coffee. No question, which one I would choose. "You have fifteen minutes", I told him. "More than enough", he smiled disarmingly. I heard my heart beating quickly.
